Product description

Product Description

Maggie describes rural life at the turn of the century where she helped to open up the country while sheltering her babies under a tree and loving a man who had his own ideas on making money. The bare bones of our heritage is written in the words of an old woman remembering her past so that the rest of us can know the way it was back then when today's luxuries were the dreams of far sighted youth.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It read like a journal and the story about Margret Lesly and her family history really touched my heart. I give it 3 Stars for book presentation, the front cover and photos and for the down-to-earth way it is written. Just as she would have experienced things in the Australian Bush as an early Pioneer Family. From Josephine Keizer.

A must read oral history of the life of a young girl, in rural New South Wales, as she grows into old age. A wonderful insight into the struggles and diverse skills needed for pioneer women to carry out what we now think of as the simplest of day to day chores, with no time off to have her large family
Living on a dirt floor, cooking over a fire, boiling the washing, growing vegetables, overcoming her fear of cows to enable her to complete the daily milking, no doctors, having total responsibility while a stern husband is away working. All this accomplished with a very positive attitude of a women who had the foresight to record her life to leave a legacy for the future.
A great read of the life of a pioneer woman written through her eyes and not those of a male like most stories of that era were
