This book is supposed to be memoir of a young Italian man during the last year of World War 2, At times, my credulity was strained.
Some of the events described in this book belong more in a spy novel than in a memoir. Some of these could be explained by a very old man recounting the escapades of youth. The author admits that he found difficulty in corroborating some events as witnesses had died or there were no records.
The description of the alpine escape routes seemed to be very credible. However, some of the events described while Pino drives around the general belong more in an action movie than in a memoir.
If this book was written as an Italian spy novel, I would have given it a higher rating of four (4) stars. Some of the escapes were hair-raising indeed.
