'The rumble of a low flying aeroplane moves overhead as a reminder that a normal life is possible. Its shadow slices at the sunlight in the window, cutting the afternoon up into moments.'
The Neighbour is a beautifully poignant book by Julie Proudfoot. It tells of the unravelling of a man- his life and family, when a child dies through a terrible and awful accident. Set in the everyday, this book is about who we are and what we become through our guilt, our responsibilities and through the ties and burdens of our families. Australian author, Julie Proudfoot, has done a wonderful job and I closed this book with satisfaction. What a graceful and beautifully written book. Congratulations Julie and on winning the 2014 Viva La Novella Prize.
