I'm only a student mostly mechanical pencils for note taking, writing, and the odd diagram, but after a few great semesters with the same pencil I thought I'd splurge and upgrade to something nice. Admittedly, it was the aesthetic of the rOtring that really stood out to me in my research over everything else. The matte black and red look is really nice in real life. The weight of the metal barrel construction took a bit to get used to - especially after using cheap plastic pencils your whole life - but after a few days you learn to use the substantial mass to reduce writing pressure. As a secondary effect for me, my handwriting seemed to get more legible and my lines more precise. My handwriting is still garbage, but I can actually go back and read most of my notes.
That being said, it's not perfect. It's got off-putting plastic internal construction and a pointless eraser. Carrying around a bar eraser fixes the latter but for $35 I was disappointed at cost cutting with important bits. The knurling on the grip part is nice but I'd like if there were options to get a larger diameter. All that being said I'm glad I got it, even though it's a steep price for someone used to paying a few cents for pencils.
