It is good to read a true account of a truly horrendous murder . To read it from the personal perspective of the officer in charge makes it a very interesting piece of literature. Well done Paul Davison for giving us a true picture of excellent Police work. A must read.
This is indeed a 'must read' for all police Senior Investigating Officers. The meticulously detailed account of the investigation into the gruesome and senseless murder of Rachel Moran coexists with the personal pressures on the author as the result of a flawed grievance against him. Notwithstanding his complete exoneration from any actions to substantiate the grievance the scars run deep and emerge throughout this book. Not only did Paul Davison provide outstanding leadership to his team in the initial search for Rachel he followed this through to its conclusion with the conviction of the perpetrator all while still dealing with his own demons. An outstanding account written by an inspirational police officer who shows immense compassion for the victim and her family and quite clearly shows concern for the excellent team of officers working under his command.
Brilliantly written. A very personal and emotive account of the case that shook Hull. Paul Davison hooks the reader with his honest insight into the police force and his daily struggles with self esteem and confidence. I’ll be ordering ‘Natalie’ today! Thank you.
Was a really good but sad read to think that someone could be so evil and just get on with there life’s as if nothing happened. Outstanding work by everyone involved bringing the monster to answer for his crime the only down side was I would have liked the abbreviations to be at the beginning of the book and not the end.
Thoroughly engrossing read which I couldn't put down. Amazing insight, worts and all into the thought processes and pressures on a police senior detective at the top of his game. One time exposing his own frailties and the next portraying the grief of the family of Rachel, Paul Davison takes us through his investigation and the excellent support from his dedicated team of detectives and support staff. The ensueing Court case is equally tense and illustrates the hurdles the police and witnesses must overcome to secure a verdict.
A fascinating insight into how the Police solved a missing person/murder case. Good old fashioned Police work and innovative decision to carry out mass house searches with consent were key to a successful conclusion.
I feel as if I have personally experienced the entire case from start to finish. The author’s honest description of his own emotions, the good, the bad and the ugly sides of our police force and the devastation and trauma Rachel’s family have suffered, coupled with his detailed account of the investigation and court case make for compelling reading.
