A fiddly camera that just stopped working

Started off as a camera that took great photos with the lens it came with but It has so many options that to get a decent photo, it took time away from actually capturing it. I've had it for a little over 1 year and I tried to turn it on yesterday, and its dead. No rhyme or reason. Won't take charge, won't start up.
I can't return or get a refund so for now It's going to become a very expensive paper weight.

Not the top of the range Olympus/OMS body,however lovely small form factor, excellent quality and great IQ non Pro lens, or Pro if you have the funds and real need, excellent colour reproduction and forget all that rubbish about sensor size.

Great little camera body - simple to use with very good image quality

I was on the lookout for a small, lightweight micro 4/3 camera to replace my aging lumix gx85 which I used as a backup camera and as a smaller body to take anywhere when I don't need or want to carry lots of heavy gear around. The choice was between this and the lumix gx9 and when the Oly came up at a really good price I took the plunge and bought my first Olympus body.

For my needs the dumbed down menus are perfect as I used them once to set the camera up how I wanted and will probably never use them again which is great because Olympus' menu system is not know for being easy to learn and navigate.

The AP setting on the mode dial is also a great idea as it allows me to use some of Olympus' more advanced features like live composite without having to dive into the menus. I used this for a firework display recently and it made it easy to capture the light trails from the fireworks - see attached photos.

The built in image stabilisation also works well and I've been able to take photos in low light without pushing the iso too high.

Image quality is also good and seems to be on par with all the other 20Mp m4/3rds cameras including the more expensive high end models. JPEGs are nice straight out of the camera but I tend to shoot raw which allows me to get the best out of the m43 sensor using dxo photolab 4 (tip: deep prime noise processing in that software can hold on to a lot of details while cleaning noise when you do need to use iso settings of 3200 or greater)

It is a great little camera body with easy to use menus and controls, very good image quality and lots of advanced features. It's in my camera bag when I travel or go out on a day's shooting as a backup to my main camera and it goes out with me when I don't want to lug a lot of gear around if I'm going to an event or a family gathering or what have you. Paired up with a nice bright prime lens it's great for indoor or low light photography, and with a kit lens or a macro it's perfect to carry with me when out shooting wildlife where it gets used to shoot everything I can't do with the main camera.

The product is reasonably good. If you are a image maker , go for it. The image stabilization is top notch.
The auto focus is quite good for stationary subjects.
However autofocus for moving subjects though is not that great.
However if you are a pixel peeper and require very good low light performance, stay away from it.
At the end of the day it all depends on the price at which you get it. If you get a good deal on it like the one I got, I'll say go for it.

My first mirrorless camera (not counting phones).

In my experience camera is pretty capable and easy to use even for complete novice, who has no idea what he is doing.

Main complain for me is that out of box it can barely do any better job that just pretty old iPhone camera. You either need to search for a specific cases when phone camera cannot do desired quality (and also you must know how to push camera to do better job since automatic mode produces similar quality to phone) such as night sky or long exposure, or use telephoto good lenses (what phones cannot do).

But camera surely adds great vibe and sense to photography and you constantly want to use it, so I'm happy with how it performs.

In my novice usage the only problem I experience is that m4/3 lenses are... either rare or expensive, and it is easier to find suitable lens for the canon.
