The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars is the same reason Avengers 3 was better than Avengers 1. It takes a little time to set up the premise of the story and sometimes that can sacrifice a little bit of the love story of Clay and Dane. Not a lot though. This was a great start to a new series. Clay seems to be the leader of the circle of Weavers and has found his soul mate in handy man Dane. Dane has already lost his wife and child through an attack on his home. I am hoping, since so much time was continually put in to that incident, that it proves to be a later plot point. They meet, have an instant attraction and connection to each other, which they fight. Eventually they cave into it. In the meantime the story of the Weavers and their eternal fight to keep the earth safe, is being told. Great start to the series and I am looking forward to the next one.
An epic start to a new urban fantasy series with magic and mystery and suspense. To say I'm hooked after finishing this instalment would be an understatement. The character introductions and the world-building is spectacular, and it lays the grounds for a brilliant overarching storyline that will hopefully span several books. I didn't feel lost at all, but rather intrigued and dying to discover more about the Weavers and their world. The pacing was spot on, with just the right amount of mystery, romance, and all the found family feels. And the romance between Clay and Dane was both explosive and sweet. It is a little bit of a slow burn what with them both holding back emotionally and grappling with issues in their past. Everything just works in this book and I devoured it in one sitting. Cannot wait for the next one!
What a strong start to the series! The worldbuiding was beautifully done - and so unique! The characters intriguing and well developed, which was enhanced by the dual POV from Clay and Dane. The storyline flowed well and was interesting. The only thing I found a little cringe worthy was some of the dialogue between Clay and Dane towards the end. Without giving away spoilers, it didn't fit their personalities, and didn't come across as 2 men talking to each other (even if they were very comfortable with expressing their feelings). Otherwise it was a great read and I look forward to more in the series.
