I got this to give it as gift and although the book looks really good unfortunately it arrived with some folded pages and some scratches and little damages along the side. I ended up having to return it and looking for something else last minute to gift. Also, I was hoping it had even more pictures of boards as I was giving it as inspiration for charcuterie boards to a family member who has a catering business.
A big pretty book, some good recipes, but some are doomed to failure due tto missing steps. The book is really more about shpping, and its usefulness is dependant upon proximity to good places to shop for fancy cheeses and charcuterie: my local grocery stores don't carry the author's favorites. An even worse irritant for me was that in more than a half dozen instances, the photographs did not match the recipes: pictured pumpkin tartlets, with a recipe for one big one; same for coconut bites. The artisan cheese ball doesn't match the recipe. What is the white garnish on the tomato tapenade and the roasted beet spread? the seedy dollups atop the beer cheese? What is in the pictured mostarda that is not in the recipe? I regret this purchase.
This book is a must have for people who entertain. With gorgeous photographs, recipes, and interviews with chefs and food artisans from around the country, it is a great read. The high “coffee table book” quality level makes it a fantastic gift. Highly recommend!
Very nice book to use as a starter for those that have begun to experiment with entertaining with Charcuterie. Easy to follow recipes. There is a section on making some of your own meats which I won't be doing, but interesting to read. Gave two books as hostess gifts, they loved them.
A must for anyone who entertains! The photographs are spectacular - reason enough to buy this cookbook. I keep it out in my kitchen just to look at the cover. Many wonderful ideas for creating masterpieces to be served for all seasons.
I have already bought one as a gift and plan to give several to friends and family this holiday season. At this price, I can't imagine a better gift idea!
My one star rating is for the quality of how the book was manufactured. Both front and back covers were separating from the core of the book. I may have received a book that had been previously owned and returned. Also, I was not too impressed with the content. A lot of the references and recommendations for cheeses and ingredients were sourced from companies on the East coast. Not helpful for someone living on the West coast.
