R.S. Grey is one of my favourite authors, always writing heartfelt, humorous yet delightful romances, ‘His Royal Highness’ was absolutely no exception. This yet another fun romantic comedy and I adored every swipe of it. It’s rather unique as it’s a second chance romance set in a theme park.
Whitney met Derek when she was 18 and he was 28. She was young and just got placed in a mentorship program at the theme park she works at. She instantly falls for him, but just as soon as she does, he is whisked away to London to oversee another theme park opening there. What he doesn't realise is that he left Whitney wounded, in fact he seemed a little oblivious to her feelings... He’s back 8 years later and sparks fly again...
There were so many "Disney-like" references it honestly felt like I was watching the whole book transpire. I fell in love Cal, her boss pretty early on. Taking Whitney under his wing was pretty special. Now I know why I can always trust Rachel to give me a great romance with some laugh out loud moments... 4/5 Stars
What a delightful story 'His Royal Highness' is - loved it! It has all the elements for an escapism read - romance, humour, emotions, cuteness and a slow-burn.
Set in a 'magical' theme park (think Disneyland with a modern fairytale theme) and it's told through the shero's POV.
The main characters are opposites, but a great match. They're both gorgeous and grow throughout the story. Whitney's persona is one I'm drawn to, as she's bright and ingenious, but unworldly and awkward. Derek Knightley is a charmer, driven, principled and self confident (a tad arrogant and naughty, too). He becomes her workplace mentor, so you can see the opportunities for a good storyline.
R S Grey builds and unpacks the plot well. She writes with a fresh quality, as well as, sympathetically, descriptively and convincingly. There's a cheeky feel, too, in this beautiful and passionate book.
This is a fairy tale story with a twist, they work at a theme park where they met. Derek is the heir apparent to the kingdom and Whitney is his princess in all ways.
This was a fun friends to lovers romance with a slight age gap. I am always happy when reading a RS Grey rom-com as she knows how to make us laugh. Whitney was a sweet young candidate who was a little innocent. She got flustered in a few situations and it was endearing. Derek was respectful and honorable with Whitney’s situation of being younger. But being away for eight years, he can see she has definitely grown up. At times it was a little heavier than the norm from this author and quite descriptive with details. But there’s plenty of dialogue between them that will keep you turning the page. The secondary couple were sweet to get to know as well.
Whitney & Derek's story was so much fun, deliciously slow burn, while slightly emotional and super cute in such an incredible setting. I seriously loved all the behind the scenes aspects of them working in a Theme Park and i really felt like i was there along for it all
Whitney was adorable, awkward, a little bit quirky but so much fun while also being slightly insecure and vulnerable. She is the type of girl who falls fast and hard but at the same time she falls safe, always going for the options she knows wont end up hurting even if its not what her heart truly wants. There will be times she frustrate's you, your heart will break for her, she will make you laugh and you will most certainly fall in love with her. She was such a well written character and watching her character grow, break down some of those safety walls she puts up while still remaining true to herself was a joy to read.
Derek was charming, sexy, flirty, confident while slightly arrogant and stubborn but he knows what he wants and wont stop until he gets it. He was dedicated to his job and the love he had for his grandfather Cal was truly special. He was so supportive of whitney and always wanted what waw best for her and honeslty i think I'm still swooning
This was more than just a love story and I really enjoyed it
It's like She's All That meets The Little Mermaid! His Royal Highness had all the right things included in its storyline to keep you reading. It did have a few things that I felt dragged on a little, and I wasn’t always a fan of Whitney’s actions and reactions–and at times she seemed a little immature for my liking. But no way did it deter me from wanting to see her and Derek get together.
In my opinion, HRH is somewhat of a coming-of-age story. Whitney is first introduced at 18 years old, introverted, comes across quite lonesome, but who’s also dealing with some deep personal issues. After several years, you get to see her as the woman she is in the present, the changes in her life, and the path she’s chosen for herself and why.
The side characters in this story were a great support group to Whitney, adding extra oomph and lightness, especially during scenes that could easily have been real downers. But that’s just the magic that is Rachel’s writing. She always seems to have the perfect one liners strategically placed that’ll have you unexpectedly snort-laughing. (Or maybe it’s just me).
Without a doubt, an enjoyable read! A teenage crush. Some heartbreak. A chance meeting years later. A double take from the guy who she had said teenage crush on. A bit of playing hard to get, and a bit of banter. A second chance romance. Funny one-liners. Lots of swooning. Annnnd of course–a HEA! A must read for romance fans in my books!

Firstly, a BIG THANK YOU to RS Grey and InkSlinger PR for the arc in an exchange for an honest review.
Secondly, I just want to point out that RS Grey has been one of my fave authors since I first started reading her books last year - so to say I have high expectations of Rachel’s books is an understatement. But boy, did she meet every. single. expectation. and then some!
I’m giving this book a big ol’ FIVE STARS because quite simply, everything from the characters, the plot, and the dialogue to the feels and nostalgia this book created was amazing. It set my young, princess-loving heart aflutter and I wanted to crawl inside this fictional theme park and live out the rest of my days.
Whitney was equal-parts realistic (her embarrassing first-crush behaviour was super relatable, am I right ladies?) and hilarious with her well timed one-liners. She grew into a confident, independent individual, despite her upbringing, and worked hard to make her life her own. I also adored her relationship with Cal. He was every bit the parental figure she needed and deserved! And Derek, what can I say about Derek? Despite a mistake made years ago (which he later learnt from: hello communication!), he really was a total prince and Whitney’s equal. Overall this story incredible and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to feel like a princess for a day.
I have always been RS grey books fan and His Royal Highness is no exception. This book is so good, I mean so so good to read. If anyone looking for fun, light hearted romance but with a great storyline then this book is the one. Whitney and Derek stole my heart. I specially love their slow burn romance. If I could, I would have given thousand 🌟 but I have to settle for 5 😅. Thank you RS Grey for writing this story. I can't even describe how happy I always feel after reading your books❤️💖.
I’m just going to start this review by saying that every book of R. S. Grey’s that I have read, I have loved. ‘His Royal Highness’ is no exception.
Grey’s humor is sprinkled throughout this book in a way that I think only she can do. ‘His Royal Highness’ is fast, insanely funny and so easy to read. I finished it in one sitting. Once you start it’s almost impossible to stop.
