Tempest Cassidy is a real firecracker of a character. Stud Muffin takes her on an emotional journey, all the highs and lows, after she discovers her douche of a husband cheating on her (no spoiler - that's in the description). Tempest has ALL the reasons for her occasional unhinged moments, and those moments actually add a lot of humour to the storyline.
Cage, *The Fighting Viking* was such a great guy! The complete opposite to Tempest's ex. Attracted to Tempest right from the start, Cage is determined to be in her life and go at her pace after he realises the upheaval she has been through. AND Cage has brothers! Hopefully the authors have plans to write the brothers' stories - that would be great.
I don’t want to be a person with a rap sheet. Orange is not a good color on me.
Anna will kick my ass when she finds out, and don’t say she won’t find out because we both know that’s a lie. Nobody gossips like the barflies and the Baptists.
First of all, Cage is not scary looking… Just because the men around here walk hunched over, dragging their knuckles like their Neanderthal forefathers, doesn’t mean it’s wrong to be tall. He can’t help it.
“That cucumber,” he says, pointing to my hands. “You’ve been squeezing it for a few minutes now. If it’s not firm enough, I can maybe go to the back and see if we have any fresh off the truck.” It’s then I realize Johnny works here at the grocery store and I have a large cucumber in my hands… stroking it. When did I get to the produce section? And when did the produce section get so erotic? Is it hot in here? … What am I here for again?
She’s the incarnation of Satan. Asher and Mindy aren’t going to have a bouncing bundle of joy, they’re going to have a devil love child. I should alert the media. This has a horror movie written all over it.
I thought it was fictional, something women made up or only happened in pornos… I’m Jell-O. My bones have turned to mush and I’ll have to spend the rest of my days just oozing through life… Here lies Tempest Cassidy. It took twenty-eight years, but she finally found out what it was like to have multiple orgasms... And then she died.
I giggle-snorted, smirked, and laughed aloud while reading this wittily penned tale. I am new to the dynamic duo of Jiffy Kate, silly me, where I have been? Their writing style was seamless, cleverly amusing, comically descriptive, keenly observant, and sharply honed to conjure sharp visuals that had me bouncing in my chair with gleeful delight.
Tempest, the Donner Bakery’s Duchess of Muffins, has gone off the rails, she seemed to have lost control of her temper after catching her husband in bed with her high school nemesis; I would imagine that certainly would do it for me too. Her vindictive acts of retribution were landing her in jail, racking up $$ in fines, and landed her in anger management. Her ex seemed to have ended up with all the friends but luckily for her, Tempest was befriended by a gorgeously handsome and well-sculpted new resident. Cage was a retired UFC fighter turned strip club bouncer – and he soon had her back, much to Tempest’s pious Bible banging mother’s horror.
Having been raised in a small, inbred town in the South, as well as surviving a ridiculously and stridently religious mother myself, I totally identified with the narrow-minded and petty small community complications and issues Tempest was floundering with. While I empathized with her plight, I frequently wanted to give her a few good kicks to dislodge her cranium from her colon. I was besotted and enamored with the sexy Cage; he was not at all what I would have expected from an MMA fighter, as he was highly intelligent, insightful, tenderhearted, patient, and my new BBF. Of course, being that he was perfect, he was like a unicorn and the type of man that could only exist on my Kindle.
“With his short sleeves, all the muscles and tendons are on full display. I love a good strong forearm. I don’t think I realised that about myself until right this very moment. The visual causes my mouth to go dry and I swallow hard , trying to ignore the pull I feel toward him. Oh. My. God. Tempest June Cassidy, get ahold of yourself.”
Stud Muffin is the second Donner Bakery Book in the Smartypants Romance Fall Collection, written by the writers, Jiffy Kate. Set in Penny Reid’s Green Valley, Tennessee, Stud Muffin is Tempest and Cage’s story, a story of moving on, of small-town drama and hijinks, of mouth-watering baked goods by the “Duchess of Muffins and a story of imperfection, of life going awry and the reality of c’est la vie when life doesn’t go to plan. And it’s got the gorgeous Tempest Cassidy and Cage Erickson, who have the whole let’s meet and be friends but have a burning attraction to one another thing down pat!
From the blurb, we know Tempest discovers her husband is having an affair with the old high school enemy and Tempest has a hard time dealing with her anger. I find this a liberating and very real storyline. Life isn’t always perfect, high emotions make tempers and frustrations spike and Tempest hastily acts upon these feelings. But as the story progresses we see a real turning point for Tempest as she learns to deal with life independently. I just love her, the writers have developed her character beautifully, and at times she had me in fits of laughter with her Southern ways, and her interactions with her family. I have a real soft spot for Cole and Anna! And then there’s Cage! Not a Southern man, he is visiting Green Valley helping out an old college friend while recovering from an injury. A professional fighter, Cage is employed at the Pink Pony as a bouncer, while he figures out what he’s going to do with his life. Add in some old country music classics, tempting and mouth-watering muffins, a high school reunion, a few ‘bless your hearts’ and you have Jiffy Kate’s Stud Muffin. Funny, yet poignant, with some cameo appearances from our Green Valley favourites, and church picnics, Stud Muffin is a definite 5 star read for me. Lovers of romantic comedy, and fans of the Winston Brothers series will fall hard for this book. It spoke straight to my heart and not just because of the hunky Cage and delicious muffins! I look forward to reading more by these writers, as Stud Muffin is my first Jiffy Kate Book I have read.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Here’s the deal, they say revenge is a dish best served cold... If that is true then Tempest serves it up like an ice cold bath in Antartica, and that’s just how the book starts.
Stud Muffin is a fantastic friends to lovers story about Tempest Cassidy, the Queen of Muffins (and revenge) whose ex cheats on her and Cage Erickson who is an ex UFC fighter who works at the Pink Pony and throws Tempest’s world for a loop (and mine). Add in some of your favourites from Green Valley and you have yourself a throughly enjoyable book.
If you love strong heroines and sweet heroes who start out friends and then take you on an epic emotional journey in book form, then this book is for you!
I highly recommend it, it was well written and hit all the things I love in a book. It fits in so well to this already awesome Green Valley and surrounds universe.
This was my first read by this author and I can say I can’t wait to dive into more of their books! I’ve been excited for all of the Smartypants romance books and this one didn’t disappoint. I loved the humour, the story and most of all, I loved Cage!
