I really enjoyed Jenn J McLeod's return to Calingarry Crossing and Dandelion House - but I knew I would. Jenn has an approachable writing style that appeals to me, and a lovely warm way of putting words on the page. In House Of Wishes, it took me just a little while to get into the 'modern' part of the story involving Beth's arrival at Calingarry Crossing, but once Lissy, Irene and Don's storyline grabbed me - it didn't let go. I am so glad Australian society has moved on from terms and times such as 'confinement' for single mothers, and disgrace at the woman for letting herself get pregnant (no matter the old takes two to tango line, nor possible abuse!) It makes me very grumpy, so best not to dwell here. Suffice to say, it works when it comes to great emotional fiction. The twist with what happens to Irene and Lissy caught me by surprise and set up the remainder of the story and took it to new heights. I thought Tom was a real sweetheart, and I loved the blossoming relationship between Tom and Beth... and for me, the dance scenes stole the show. Jenn J McLeod has written a heart-warming novel that will appeal to all her fans, new and old.
Jenn J McLeod doesn't disappoint in her latest novel, House of Wishes. A heartfelt and emotional story with characters who latch onto your heart and keep you reading to make sure they're okay. With beautiful imagery, you will see the story playing out and remember this one for a long time. 5 stars.
