Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings using a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. The machine learned model takes into account factors including: the age of a review, helpfulness votes by customers and whether the reviews are from verified purchases.
The book starts off with mysteries. Who is the boy whose life Julia saves and why had he been sneaking around her coastal holiday cottage? He lies in a coma and by the time he is eventually identified further mysteries have arisen. Why do his belongings contain a valuable watch that seems to belong to Julia’s late husband? Who is stalking Julia and her daughter even as the boy lies in hospital? How had Julia’s husband been involved?
There is a theme of moths throughout the book and each chapter is prefaced by a discussion of different moths and their relevance to the story and to the mind of the perpetrator.
The writing standard is good, the story well paced and one by one the mysteries are solved until finally all is revealed.
