Olivia Bennet has written a compelling story filled with intrigue, mystery, dramatic jealousy and love. There are attacks by highwaymen, balls, nursing, kidnapping and imprisonment. The story begins with Teresa traveling to her new place of employment. The carriage is attacked by highwaymen, she is nearly brutalized, her most precious possession is stolen .. a necklace owned by her late mother. Dramatically she is saved by Luke Morten. During the ride he begins to feel attraction for her. She resists her feelings because she loves her job as governess and not wanting to lose her job. After Luke is injured when horse racing his brother and she nurses him back to health, they both try to resist but their attraction and feelings become obvious with doe eyes to Luke's family. The family and area is targeted by highwaymen and Luke and his brother have to work together to get rid of them. I felt quite transported to the time with this novel, the story drew me into its world and I really liked the characters. There is a HEA for Luke and Teresa..and a extended epilogue which concludes the storyline with Edmund, Luke's brother.
A compelling and heartwarming story. Loved Luke and Teresa’s journey. On her way to her post as governess Teresa is attacked by highwaymen. As she gets to know the family she becomes involved in the mystery that seems to revolves around the Duke’s family. Who is the Sphinx and why is he out to cause harm? A very enjoyable story. Well done Olivia.
