After reading a great many books on POW escape, I thought I had uncovered the majority of primary first-hand accounts, when I came across this nugget. THe book was ghost-written by Colin Burgess, which I am sure made the different to the quality of the account, for the principal, Jack Champ, a rough Australian, was included in the famous Eichstatt and Warburg escapes, in addition to his time spent in Colditz. The Diggers in the title, refers to the number of Australians, rather than their preferred escape method.
The book was a great account, written in a different style from the majority of accounts, and quietly understated for an Australian but on cross-checking with many other books, noted that his name pops up regularly. A good (relatively) recent book on the lot of a determined POW escaper
