Prescott is one my new favourite authors. After loving the Extinctsion series, Augmented didn't disappoint.
Although the author tackles some highbrow concepts, the writing is easy to digest if not a little basic. The simpler, less sophisticated writing though in terms of how characters speak and jargon makes the book a rollicking tale for both adults and young adult readers.
What's great is that Prescott can mix sci fi with technology, futurism, social justice and still find room for proto human aliens and thoughts on the origins of humankind.
In this regard though Augmented differs from his previous trilogy, reading more or less like the Bourne Identity.
More of a linear thriller- globe trotting, the pacing and action is excellent and moment to moment adventures keep the pace up till the inevitable conclusion. The books take a left turn about 1/2 way through and then seemingly veers right away for a large percentage, almost telling a story within a story which can be hard to follow before rushing to the finale- but all in all, a well thought out story that was fun from start to end!
Great lockdown and locked-in read for when you can’t go anywhere until you get the all clear. The story line was good, the characters were ok, and it all tied in together nicely at the end. Perfect for when you’re stuck at home.
