S.E Jakes is one on my all time fav's. Love her books. Hell and High Water series is still one of my top 5 favourite series and I've read it several times. This book doesn't disappoint. I love the whole grey ops', mercenary, cloak and dagger, danger and suspense books and she does it brilliantly. This was wrapped up in all of their pasts in one way or another and as the threads unraveled I was totally enthralled and couldn't put the book down. Always a hot 🔥sizzle when the men get it on and looking forward to the next book
I enjoyed this book. The writing style was engaging, as were the characters. I liked the suspense plot line as much as the romance, and the kink aspect was well done, with respect for BDSM - “It’s about trusting someone to give you the experience you need. Trusting them to tell you what you need, and trusting yourself enough to tell them if they don’t get it right.” - as well as being hot. I love well done menage, and this book did well at showing the three men interacting separately as well as together.
And introduced a great cast of side characters.
For a book that first in the series, it’s seriously lacking in background and setup. The basic premise is that Cade is indulging in a fantasy of being taken by multiple men at a club called Crave. Two of those men are Vic and Tegan (who while they have not actually gotten together, have been sparking off each other for some time). The scene goes sideways and details of blackmail emerge, throwing the three men into forced proximity. It’s possible that the history referred to between Vic and Tegan occurs in the author’s previous Men of Honour series, set in the same world. But if so, it should be noted that this book doesn’t stand alone. It felt like the author thought the readers were privy to all the world building stored in their head, and didn’t need to do exposition. Since I am not in fact privy, I felt the emotional side of the book lacked depth. It all moved very fast and I didn’t feel we actually experienced anything on page that justified the emotional development between the three men. I was happy for them, and they were hot together, but I wasn’t feeling either the relationship between Tegan and Vic, or between Cade, Vic and Tegan. Definitely insta love - based on what is on page. More exposition is definitely required.
Factoring in the lack of depth and detail, the amount of suspension of disbelief required for some of the military aspects, and that a tighter eye is needed on proofreading, what would otherwise be a 4* read is slightly downgraded.
It’s a fun book, keeps you reading, but it needs more. I’ll still read the other books in the series, and I’ll probably go back and read Men of Honour, so that’s a win.
💖 loved this. Three gorgeous guys with some hot chemistry and danger add a great book. The men definitely have some baggage especially Cade complete with scars. Vic he and Tegan have been dancing around each other for a while just waiting for the chemistry to bust. Oh I love Strider's character he's kinda cool for a supposed bad guy. The funny banter mixed with some smoking hit scenes included plus heeps more. A fantastic ending to great book, I loved the Men Of Honour series and I'm gonna love this one too. Cant wait the see what happens with Rourke too. Loved it. Cade 25 yrs walked into Crave's Fantasy Week not knowing what he'd be getting into. Room 4 awaits with Tegan and Vic for him to pay a debt. OMG! SE Jakes is back with a BANG!! I'm in 7th heaven. Love this new series & that we also get to catch up with some of the guy's from Men of Honor Series. Cade, Vic, Tegan the chemistry between these ex-military men are super hot! The great storyline kept me reading until the end. The next books in this series will be released quite soon. Fantastic news. SE Jakes is an auto-buy for me never disappoints.
