The story begins with the discussion of an arranged marriage. At first the reaction is one of defiance and the other of obligation. When they meet and talk they begin to like each other. They enjoy each other's company. I liked how the story is written in an engaging style and the use of words of the era (some of the words i grabbed a dictionary for! and i'm glad i did, by using words from the era it gave it authenticity); descriptions of courtship and of the events of the day. Isabella is quite innocent and she falls in love for the first time. Emmanuel is a man who has been traumatised by the loss of his parents and the loss of his leg. As the courtship continues the relationship is tested by a kidnapping, and a shocking revelation from the past. I liked how Olivia wrote of the growth of this romance from like, to love, to passion. I loved it! Recommended!
