I like many other readers found Gideon to be bloody horrid in 'Milo's book - but I know and love Lily Morton as an author and knew that there was redemption in Gideon's future.
It only took pneumonia and a nurse called Eli. Do not be frightened of Lily taking you down a dark path because it did not happen. It was just lovely to see Gideon as his true self and his mean, snivelling manager got his just desserts.
What I loved best was the Epilogue - like all the books in this series - it tells me that love wins!
She always writes an entertaining, funny, loving story. Her characters are full of life but not without their demons and challenges. Gideon doesn't disappoint. I recommend you start at Book 1, because the characters play a role in each subsequent book and make more sense when you know their individual stories, but the books can also be read as stand alone. Loved the book, loved the story, loved that Gideon found his way out of the darkness, prejudice and pain that surrounded him and found his HEA.
Wonderful wonderful story. A brilliant conclusion to this great series. I like that the Gideon and Eli’s relationship had its ups and downs but not angst ridden. Thank you Lily Morton for a wonderful series.
I’d been hanging out for this one and it did not disappoint!!
I loved Gideon in previous stories and I knew there was more to him than meets the eye and Lily did a great job at portraying a closeted, confused, lonely and genuine person. Gideon is lonely and in need of a family that loves and supports him for him. He has that with his estranged brother Milo and his ex-lover, turned best-friend and almost brother in law but he won’t open himself to love and the possibility of rejection. He is broken, lost and engaged with pretty bad (and harmful) behaviors that almost kill him. Sadly this isn’t his ‘wake-up call’ as he is so set in his ways. Thankfully its Milo to the rescue and he forces Gideon to take care of himself by going on an over 45s cruise to help heal and detox. With the help of the charming, strong and ever optimistic surprise that is nurse, Eli we are in for a sassy, sarcastic and powerful journey to finding your place, your person, and yourself along the way.
This book is truly fantastic, with all you’ve come to love and expect from Lily and so much more. I had a book hangover of epic proportions but I’d do it all again for Gideon and Eli!!!! I loved it!!!
I loved the first two books in this series but, like a lot of other reviewers, Gideon was not my favourite person in the world after reading Milo! I knew there would be a different side to him though and I really did see it in this book. He’d driven himself so hard and the result being that he became really ill. Enter Eli, Gideon’s nurse! As per usual with Lily Morton the humour, sarcasm and banter between the two men was brilliant and had me laughing out loud. I loved watching Gideon come alive again as he fell for Eli and the connection between the two was perfect. This is another stunning book by Lily Morton and I loved it!
I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review
I was starting to feel a bit burnt out on the Finding Home series and its related spinoffs. I just felt the emotional impact of the previous books wasn't as strong as when the series started out. But Gideon really does manage to push emotional buttons. It's well written, and really rounds out the story in a way I love.
I felt like they were trying to set up one of Eli's friends for a sequel, which I'm not sure about - he got so little screentime. Also, I don't enjoy the ending epilogues, I don't feel it necessary to tell us what happens 7 years later. I much prefer to imagine it myself.
But good overall and definitely enjoyable and worth the price. I cried at least once.
If you aren’t familiar with Lily Morton’s work, be prepared for a superbly crafted, engaging story with well rounded, loveable characters and hot sex scenes that don’t overwhelm the plot. It’s as simple as that.
