In this dark romantic suspense story you can’t help but feel a bit sorry for Blossom Jaymes, a twenty-five year old baker who becomes the target and somewhat obsession of hitman Percivale. Although their chemistry is obvious to both of them, things are extremely stressful and this is definitely not the hearts and roses type of romance. He dreams of breaking her down bit by bit. Moving from place to place and hit to hit as well as trying to out run the ‘other guys’ makes for an interesting time and really adds to the intrigue and suspense.
Percivale intrigues me as a character, his plans so unsure about what he is going to do with Blossom, to me, is a redeeming quality. His true colours do come out though and they are a lot more colourful than he’d like us to believe they are as well as more complex.
I thoroughly enjoyed this dark steamy romance, the story captivates your attention from the beginning and continue to hold your interest. It is a fast paced story which is easy to read, even if some of the content is a tad far fetched, it is still an entertaining story that is very absorbing.
Blossom and Percivale have an interesting dynamic. Blossom is a sweet young baker who gets flung into a situation that takes her far from her quiet life. Percivale has a job to do and yet he begins to find it harder and harder to complete. Without realising it, Percivale starts developing feelings for Blossom and things get more complicated for him. The feelings go the other way too and Blossom feels something for Percivale. But all of that comes to a head when she discovers the truth about how their two lives crossed. There’s a lot of steam and Percivale does his best to dirty his sweet innocent flower. I think the reason he does this is because he feels as though he doesn’t deserve her otherwise. He needs to taint her in order to be worthy of her. The title fits well for the story and while Percivale can be cruel, part of him has a sense of justice and protects Blossom as best as he can. It’s an interesting romance filled with action.
This was a definite change of pace after Ache and the blurb had me excited. I so badly wanted to 5 star this book but just a few things stopped me. At Times, I found the storyline hard to believe. That being said, I really loved Blossom and the chemistry between her and Percival was off the charts.
The writing was fantastic as usual with SM Soto’s books, and if you’re a fan of her Chaos series, I think you will love this book.
