At first glance, I was very excited as I've had many close encounters with people driving into my lane. However, I've been having difficulties with deleting videos off of the camera and it becomes "full" within a day. Today I was driving and had some footage I wanted to look over, but when I plugged it in, I was disappointed to see that the cam had been recording over one video (meaning I had a ton of locked videos, but recording over the only "free" space, even after previously thinking I had unlocked and deleted all of these videos. I'm not sure if I received a faulty device, but I've also been having issues viewing the videos. It takes me multiple menu hold and clicks to finally get to the videos on my device.
All in all, if you just need a cheap cam and have the time to take the memory chip out every week to make sure all of the videos are deleted for when you actually need it, this is the cam for you.
For a product that costs $60, I expected better quality. The suction cup on the mount works well, but the attachment point for the camera itself is loose. There isn't anything that "clicks" the camera into the mount. You just slide it into a groove on the mount. I've had multiple instances of the camera just wriggling itself off the mount and falling down while I was making a sharp turn.
The camera quality is also not that great. It claims that the front camera is 1080p and the rear camera is 720p, but it really looks more like the front camera is upscaled 720p and the rear camera is upscaled 480p. The low framerate makes the footage look blurry at high speeds. The camera is also has terrible low light performance. Very hard to see anything in night time footage.
Pretty much all this is good for is just to show that "something happened". It won't be able to read license plate numbers farther than one car distance away, and it'll definitely not be able to make out faces of people in other cars.
The picture quality itself is great. The night vision is decent for the price. The installation is easy. Even someone who isn’t car/tech savvy can install this in under 30 minutes.
Now to the cons that give this 3 stars instead of 5.
PARKING MONITORING- When this feature is active, your camera will turn on from even the slightest vibration, such as opening/closing your door and entering the vehicle to start your drive. The problem with this feature is that it continuously loops your camera on/off and doesn’t actually record your full drive. After reaching out to customer service, they told me that you have to manually turn this feature on/off every time you park. This is not stated anywhere in the user manual or Amazon item description, and is a huge inconvenience when you’ve got places to be or other things on your mind to be bothered to remember this step every time you need to drive.
HEADLIGHT SENSOR- This feature is extremely sensitive. Even with your high beams on, if you are in a no light/low light area, this warning will still be displayed, making it a useless feature to remind you to turn on your headlights when they are already on. Customer service has also told me that this is “normal” operation.
Other than these two discrepancies, the camera is great and definitely worth it for the price. Just avoid using these two features.
This camera works great. I bought this for my dad so he can have a dashcam with him at all times. The picture quality is good and always works while in use. But one big problem we have with this is when the memory card fills up, the camera does not erase the oldest files to keep recording. Once the memory fills up you have to format the card everytime. I tried different memory cards and still the same thing happens. This is very annoying because my dad is not tech savory and has to drive around with the camera having an annoying beep. I had to buy him a 256gb card just so it can last longer, but once it fills up I have to make a special trip to his place to format it for him. Very annoying. In my family we have 5 other dashcams (Aukey,Anker) and none fo them have this issue. Will not be buying another Apeman.
I started using it promptly once I received the device(s). They seemed to work fine for the first week of installation, except for the back one once I inserted the Micro SD Card (which got fixed once I spoke to a representative of amazon). After this it seemed that everything was working right, looping, everything. One day, I noticed some weird activity at my place, so I decided to take a look at my videos, and to my surprise, there was nothing on my micro sd card. Not one single video. I said to myself that it might have been the looping system. I spoke with my Uncle and Auntie becuase they had a camera set up as well, and they do have their loop on as well for every three minutes and that their sd hold the last 12 hours of video footage. That was them with 16GB Micro SD Card, While mine was a 32GB (Yes, I did in fact formatted the card itself).
I started playing with the settings, and it started recording and saving the video footage to a very limited extent of 2hrs and 29min. And that's just using the 720p setting, not the 1080p FHD setting. Even so, it actually did not hold what it said it hold. I formatted the card a bunch of times to see if something gets fixed or not. My auntie just got a 64GB Micro SD card, and obviosuly got more than me.
I tried defaulting all settings to see what happens, and then twicking them once more, and again, and again, and still nothing. I turn the "night guard" feature on, and still doesn't record, despite the camera having a full battery charge. Don't misunderstand what I'm trying to say, I truly enjoy this camera, and both the rear and front video footage are very good looking and very crisp. Yet, it doesn't really hold much in the memory until it prompts the message "Lack of storage space." It's freezing up on me at times, and when I hit the record button, it shots off by itself.
I like that it's a small camera but it heats up/warm up when using. I'm using the obd wiring which was easier for me then the cigarette outlet to use and install. Wish there was a better written instructions on the buttons, how to use. 7/11/20- I lowered a star as it now stops recording and had similar issues of records but stops after few minutes. I bought this for the " in case of an accident " and my friend had it. I honestly would suggest a different brand.
I am changing my review till what I feel is getting the run around on replacing my DASHCAM.It is the best one I ever bought but 4 days now I been waiting to see that a new one was sent out as they said they would but first they wanted a video to send to the engineer to just send one.Well I tried 5 X and the video says to big.I told them that so I sent a picture instead and havent heard back.It wont record and gets snowy.Once again great camera but i am getting stalled and just because they say the on gmt is no excuse to take care of it..THEY TAKE CARE OF THIS THEY WILL GET 5 STARS.
Camera quality isn’t great so don’t expect to see license plates clearly unless you’re stopped in traffic and night vision is quite poor especially on the back camera, with a 16gb card I only get about 1-2 hours of video, the inertia video save works I tested by giving the camera a little slap while it was recording and when I went back to look a few days later the clip was still there. All in all it does about what you’d expect for the price and should cover you in an accident but keep in mind the video quality isn’t great.
The mount makes it so you cannot make the camera level. I get that you want us to mount the camera towards the top of the windshield but I want it a bit farther down, and there isn’t enough adjustment on the mount for it to sit level. That makes no sense. Good camera besides that. Sorry. Returned.
