Glad I bought the box set as I just kept reading, wanting to know more about the characters; what would happen to them. Loved the way new characters / scenarios were introduced; intertwining their lives.
This is a pretty action packed apocalyptic saga, spread from Beijing, Iran to America, but is mainly focused on America. If you enjoy mayhem, destruction & the smallest sliver of hope you'll like this series. Sadly, much is credible, including the premise of a global 'Rods from God' WMD system designed to deter attacks from countries, similarly to nuclear weapons threats. There are a few areas where you need to suspend disbelief somewhat in the interests of the tale, like ammunition that lasts an awfully long time without replenishment stores & some damn lucky main characters. And I don't know if it's an American perspective, because the widespread ownership of guns & history of events such as the atrocities committed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina certainly seem to support the widespread negativity, danger, inhumanity & selfishness that can develop in the wake of a community disrupting event, but be prepared for a lot of the very worst of humanity being represented, with good guys definitely in the minority. It may seem realistic to some, but having experienced & witnessed devastating natural events in Australia, the sheer volume & widespread nature of inhumanity seemed unrealistic, as here, communities on the whole have come together & been supportive & constructive, far more than torn each other apart & been destructive. Still, even from my different perspective, it is an entertaining series in an apocalyptic dystopian fashion, with some characters you really get to like & admire.
