If you like Harry Potter, Vampire Academy and Shadowspell Academy books, you will probably enjoy this one. It was a bit slow to start with for me ~ mostly it was learning about the different characters and how they all fit in, but it came together nicely for the big action scene near the end. It was also a nice surprise to get to read from other characters point of view later in the book ~ it gave them more depth and got you more intrigued by them and their individual lives. I'm excited to find out how the story and characters develop in term two!! Overall a good start to what I think could be a great series!
I love Ms Swallow's more grown-up titles, but I figured her new YA series was worth a try, and I wasn't wrong. And who can't love Maeve from the beginning? Tyler totally deserved it. She's surprisingly well-balanced for a teenager who's been told she's crazy for most of her life, though she has understandable trust issues even when more of the supernatural world starts to emerge around her. Oh, so hard to write more without spoilers! I'd definitely call this upper YA, with characters on the cusp of adulthood, but still capable of making really rookie mistakes...and it's so heartbreaking when they do! I enjoyed it, and my high-school-aged daughter will, too.
This book is terrific. I enjoyed every moment, the characters are wonderful. Maeve, Jamie, Ash, Andrei and Amelia friendship is complicated by attraction and things in their pasts that effect the decisions that they make.
Their story unfolds in the Nightworld Academy and events that happen bind them closer together but also pushes them apart.
LJ Swallow has created a rich world about the supernatural which I have found enthralling and I can’t wait to read the next instalment.
I was unsure what to expect initially as there are a few RH magical school books out at the moment but I think this is a solid start to a new series by the extremely talented LJ Swallow! The main characters were all intriguing and I am interested to find out more about them all...yes the FMC was annoying but she is a teenager! What did frustrate me was that the FMC just blindly followed and let herself stay intone dark...I hope she grows a bit tougher and more demanding in book two! I am excited to see what happens next!
Adventure right from the beginning with this book! There were no quiet moments, no moments were you felt lost or waited for something to happen. The story flowed perfectly with a steady stream of well thought out and full blooded characters and our MC is one feisty strong girl! Cannot wait for book 2!
I didn't expect to liked this book because there so many popping up in Amazon but I do I loved it and devoured it. I only wished that some sexy times are ahead between Maeve and her guys. And pls don't kill Jamie!
