What an amazing and powerful wrap up to the series! I finished this in one sitting - it held me spellbound from the start.
These characters are so beautifully and realistically written! I loved that they had doubts, made mistakes, but also that they learned from each other and their own mistakes, evolved as individuals and grew closer along the way. And not just our MCs - Jade, Xel, Treb and Civan - but the secondary characters as well. I loved that we got to see more of the other mages, especially those who had difficult affinities but chose the 'light' way to use/harvest them. I also loved that the side plots with Aisha and Kevik were further exored and resolved nicely.
And what a journey our 4 MCs have had! None of them has had an easy past, all of them were broken in some way and have had obstacles to overcome to find their true happiness. Throw in that the Sultan and his pet mages are trying to start a war and become the gods they believe they descended from and you have chaos, and a very interesting storyline!
I love that the romance was a key facet if the book, but also didn't take over the other storylines. There was still amazing depth and substance - the backstories had backstories! Quality was not compromised at any stage of this series, and that flowed into the worldbuilding as well. This series is not just set on earth with magic - it is a completely different world with different people, customs and abilities.
I don't want to say more because it really is a series you need to read to get the full impact. I would definitely recommend this series, and anything else by this author. I'm yet to find anything from her diverse range of books that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed.
I loved seeing how much our fave foursome have grown since the first book, and just how much they truly love each other. Loved their interactions with characters we've come to know and love, like Cal, Aisha and Kev; and we also get to know more about some other characters we hadn't seen much of. The ending was absolutely perfect, and while i'm sad this series is over, i'm hopeful that someday there will be more in this world with the other characters. <3
Once again Auryn has delivered an amazing book. I read this in a day. All the threads of the story came together at the end in a way that didnt leave you hanging but still left the opportunity for a return of the characters if Auryn feels the need. Wonderful trilogy and one I will definately read again.
What a great series. I purchased this last book in the series and held off reading it until the kids school holidays so I wouldn’t be as distracted. Absolutely loved this series when I read the blurb on the first book. I wasn’t sure, but then decided to give it a go as so far I have not found a book by Auryn Hadley that I haven’t liked. She builds such a world and handles such complex issues beautifully. I highly recommend any book written by Auryn
Great conclusion to the D.O series. The quad lovers are more in tune with each other, overcoming their insecurities and embracing their relationship more. All the while still kicking mage butt. I enjoyed the sensual chemistry between each other, fighting for the people and their right to live peacefully. Good plots and hope to see a some supporting characters getting their own book. Highly recommend.
I put off reading this last one of the trilogy, not because I didn't want to read it, but because I didn't want the story to end. That is how much Jade, Civan, Treb and Xel came to mean to me. I couldn't think of a group of people more deserving of a happily ever after.
I am always on the search for new authors and new interesting stories. Auryn Hadley was an author I was recommended and how pleased am I to have read her books. Each one is unique and interesting and each world is so thought out. This book was the last of hers that I have read and just like the others it was AMAZING! I highly recommend this book and all her others.
