This is a well written sweet clean Regency romance. Helena and Elias have been friends since childhood. When Elias comes home from school after four years, he finds Helena is no longer a child but a beautiful woman. When Helena’s father makes some disastrous financial decisions, the family is near to ruin.
This is the story of how Helena and Elias have to overcome the obstacles put in front of them. There is distress, unfounded accusations, false arrest and heartache. There are some twists and turns along the way to keep you guessing what is coming next.
I found it slow at the beginning but I’m glad I kept reading; the pace picked up and I enjoyed the book overall. Even when other people and circumstances were against them Elias and Helena still believed in each other.
Helena and Elias grew up together as their parents were best friends. Their childhood friendship develops into more, but circumstances create almost unsurmountable problems for the families. The hurt and confusion seems as if it cannot be solved and their love for each other seems helpless. Other family members only add to the distress felt by them. The culmination of their problems is a mastery of thought and planning, and made me want to cry out with congratulations to them. I always enjoy Abby's stories, and this one is anther example of her skills. A must read.
