This is the first time I have read a novel by Rebecca Jenshak and she definitely did not disappoint me. THE FADEAWAY was a thoroughly enjoyable story, even though it is the second in the Smart Jocks series, it can definitely be read as a standalone.
Joel Moreno appears to come across as your typical run of the mill jock, rude, egotistic, a player and very self opinionated. Although behind his facade is a person who is loving, tender and suffering from low self-esteem. Katrina Phillips is the perfect choice for him, she's hard working, loyal, independent and a single mum. She cherishes her Thursdays though ... why? ... because Joel comes into the coffee shop where she works. And every Thursday he asks her out, however Katrina constantly rejects him until she needs help with a school project.
From here the story really pics up the pace and a real friendship begins to develop between the two. I really loved their humour and their interactions. Once Joel began to open up and drop his walls their relationship began to move along even further. I can only say that Joel's chase of Katrina is truly romantic, he just never gives up.
Rebecca Jenshak has written a beautiful story of staying true to yourself, but knowing when to put others before yourself. Wonderful characters, intriguing story line and addictive words will keep this book in your hands. I definitely can recommend this book be read. Now to go and read book 1, The Assist.
Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction book blog. After reading The Assist, I was waiting somewhat impatiently for Joel's story The Fadeaway. Let's just say that is didn't disappoint as it was everything I was hoping it would be. Joel..... swoon...... Such a fantastically written man. To say he was determined to win over Katrina was an understatement. What was unusual for him was that she made him work for it. Another highlight to this story for me was how well Katrina was written. Being a young single mother putting herself through college, I thought Rebecca did a wonderful job portraying the struggles she went through. All the whilst trying to be the best mother she could possibly be to her little boy. With a great cast of support characters, I can't wait to find out who the next book will feature. It was also great catching up with Wes & Blair.
Joel Freaking Moreno is a smart sexy spanish speaking jock... who has humour and the ability to make you laugh swoon and giddy to your heart’s content!!! Even with his past experience, this guy sure knows how to ‘romance a girl’. Katrina is determined. With her son - having a life at college can be a little tricky but YOU HAVE TO READ THIS. See how Joel melts your heart with how he goes about wooing THE GIRL.
The Fadeaway is an awesome follow up of ‘The Assist’(#1). Love the secondary characters. Love the interaction between the main characters. But Joel and Christian(son)?? That’s a whole ‘nother level of hearty starry eyes!!!
Loving this series so far. Volunteered to read an arc for an honest review. And I just want to say that with this series, you’ll never go wrong. Rebecca writes brilliantly that you’ll just want more and more of her work.
