I just finished up reading Shadow Sun by Dave Willmarth. I don't know what to say here, truly an unputdownable post-apocalyptic LitRPG. I was hooked from start to finish; it flowed that nicely. From scene to scene it is masterfully written with a bit of humour here and there along with subtle references to pop culture.
The characters are fully fleshed out and easy to empathise with. Their interactions are fluid and relatable.
The story premise isn't unique by any means but Dave has truly given himself to this work and it shows in so many ways throughout which left me eager for more and so very involved in the plot.
Very much enjoyed this, good plot, cosmic villains, magic powers what more good you ask for - all that lacking is a zombie invasion. Maybe in book two, after all those billions of dead humans got to do something constructive.
1 Star Couldn't finish the book 2 Stars Didn't really like the book, but was interested enough in the story to finish (Skipping great chunks) 3 Stars The book was okay, finished it and will consider reading more from the author 4 Stars Really enjoyed the book, will check out others by this author 4 1/2 Stars Loved the book, will immediately check out others by author, if asked will recommend book 5 Stars LOVED the book, will immediately check out all others by author, will pre-emptively recommend book to ALL my book friends
This book earned it's five stars, I look forward to recommending it to all my friends and I expect to reread it several times over the years. What a great start of a new series. It's definitely up there with Tao Wong's System Apocalypse.
A great first instalment what I will put down as a must read series for me. The alien-initiated apocalypse is suitable gritty. It seems to wipe out much more than the purported 90% of the population. The MC is engaging and while he leads a charmed life in combat, there is no sense he is overpowered in this new threat-filled world. Character progression is interesting and the story keeps you interested in finding out how the “system” works. There is some great action, suspense and a good range of supporting characters to keep things interesting. This is a great read and I can’t wait to see where book two takes us!
Very enjoyable read, all the stuff you expect to see from this genre with a likeable main character. My only criticism would be that the mc was supposedly a college student but had the mannerisms and way of speaking of someone much older than that.
Great idea for a story line and good build up with plenty of action in book 1. If the next book follows the same lines the author has the opportunity to create a great series. Good character growth lots of interesting situations and plenty of action
I was looking for a new book to read and was struggling getting past the start of a few but ones I saw Dave had another ready i started and didn’t stop thank you very much for a great read and look forward to more maybe even animating a little doll would be cool ;)
