I liked it. It had the usual tropes of the genre with enough new twists to be unique and interesting. Buildings and vehicles transforming in to gollums was amusing and made for some great action. An adult mc made for a good change, the nerdy pimpled secret king gets old and I can't stand whiney mc's. One trope I could do without is the clueless about women one. It's not difficult to understand women. Another writing tick that detracted from the novel was the childish words and phrasing used to replace swearing. Swear or leave it out, don't make up new ones that detract from the tale. Given the conclusion there is lots of room for expansion in this setting. If so I'll be reading them.
Characters are adult thank goodness. Nor everyone who reads this genre wants a clueless teen nerd for a hero. This hero is unfortunately a bit socially retarded regarding women but that seems to be automatic in modern literature why I do not know. Its not funny or cute just a repetitive worn out trope that I guess is supposed to make home endearing maybe? Just annoying and dumb and worn out. But every other novel does it. Otherwise it has the usual levelling combat and class elements but also has good story line
Our MC is a tad lucky, but thoughtful at times. When the world changes, he is able to find a class due to his ancestral heritage. This Class turns out to be quite powerful. He also is able to get a Manticore as a companion/pet. The start of the book reminds me Tao Wong’s “System Apocalypse” series, but it develops nicely as the book continues. Interesting & proving to be a good read with future books promising interesting story lines. Read it on Kindle Unlimited.
This book had exactly what I want in fantasy - I was 100% immersed. Lost in a vivid new world, experiencing the discovery, conflict and growth of an engaging MC, this is a great first up book in the genre. Give me more! The character development was good, the threat very real and the action was gripping. While the MC has his share of luck, he is by no way overpowered in this new world, facing and sometimes running from some huge threats. Great Stuff!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series so far and I will be buying the next installment when it comes available for purchase.I recommend this book to all who enjoy this genre.keep up the good work
