Sweet, indeed! Ever since I first read Anne of Green Gables as a young girl, I’ve had an enormous soft spot for a hero who waits patiently for his heroine, never swerving from his love and devotion, even when the depth of his affection is unreturned. To say I have been anticipating Britt and Zander’s story since the beginning of this series is akin to saying Australia gets a bit warm in the summer. Add in Zander’s character in particular—intelligent, introspective, and romantic, with “Dickensian orphan eyes” and the dark, striking looks to pull the package together—and you have a perfectly delicious recipe for a romance, even if chocolate weren’t involved!
With such great heights of anticipation, the possibility of not meeting expectations is always high—unless Becky Wade is the author. And boy, does she deliver. Crackling romantic tension, totally swoon-worthy romance (words and actions!), an intriguing mystery that delivers a suspenseful climax, AND a personal breakthrough for Britt that packs an emotional punch. Her characters live and breathe on the page, and while she doesn’t write romantic comedy, you’ll always find characters or phrases that make you laugh—sometimes quite unexpectedly! I really don’t know what else you could ask for.
This whole series from Becky Wade represents the very best contemporary Christian romance has to offer in every aspect of the genre, from genuine, swoon-worthy romance all the way through to her characters’ faith journeys. I can’t wait to see where her next series takes us.
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.
