Ok, review update. They don't completely drain. A little flimsy and easily dentable in the silicone area. The silicone is thinner than most other collapsible items I have. Works ok, but seems like another cheap China made Amazon product.
It seems strange to write a review for colanders, but these really are nice. They take up very little storage space, which is nice in a cramped kitchen, and they seem plenty durable. We've had them awhile, they've put up with plenty of straining of pasta and cleaning of fruit and being run through the dishwasher, and they're no worse for wear. The big one works best for draining pasta; the smaller two will work, obviously, but you have to shake it a bit to get more of the water out of the bottom.
I didn't expect to like these as much as I do. The space savings is the biggest bonus, these compress down to almost nothing and can easily fit in my cabinets. It's gardening/canning season, so the large over-the-sink one has been out non-stop for a few weeks now. I agree with other reviewers that they don't drain that great. The thickness of the bottom plastic creates a solid surface tension in the drain holes which tends to make it retains some water. But all you have to do is tap the strainer and it all comes out. Easy to overcome, so definitely not a deal breaker. Someone else complained about the silicone being thin and I honestly don't agree at all. This is made to be opened and closed repeatedly and the silicone is very durable yet flimsy enough to perform it's functions. Like I said, I didn't expect to love these strainers as much as I do. I'm glad I bought them and will put these on any future house-warming gift list.
I bought these for our RV as we don't have a lot of room for storage and these fit the bill perfectly. I like there are 3 different sizes. They really come in handy and so much better than the little handheld strainers I was using.
Liked their flattening ability and their expandability. Their sturdiness is slightly lacking but with care should be fine. Holds up to hot foods, washed in dishwasher top rack with no issues, does tend to stain with red sauces. A little bleach and stain cleans off.
