⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow! What a read. This is one of those books that's a rare combination of fast paced (meaning I couldn't read quickly enough) and also a delicious slow burn. It covers some brutal subjects and it does it in a really honest and respectful way. I bawled my eyes out in this one. Full blown ugly cried and I loved it. Sometimes you need a book that gives you a great cry. This is it.
River and Carrie are two of the strongest characters I think Samantha has written. I adored them. So believable. so damaged and so deserving of happiness. My 4am bedtime was totally worth it with this one. Absolutely recommend if you're looking for a genuine, emotional story.
While I really enjoyed this story, the characters, the challenges and love. I really felt something more could be happening, the anticipation built up throughout the story...when is the bad guy going to arrive? What's going to happen? It found it lacking and a little disappointing. I wish there was more moments between River and the Heroine to solidify their relationship. As much as I loved this book it feels like watching a movie and waiting for the deleted scenes, just grasping for a little more of the characters and catching some more moments to make sense of their relationship.
River Wild started off with a bang, and didn't stop from then on.
River and Carrie/Annie's story is not always an easy one to read. It touches on some dark and painful issues, and I felt that it was done well (not having been through any of the things they have, I can only say how I felt about it). I like stories with broken characters (I can't be the only one a bit sick of the perfect guy meets the perfect girl stories?) and I
Being inside our lovelies heads as they faced the demons of their pasts, it was an emotional journey. I wanted to scream, I wanted to cry, I wanted to throw my kindle at people.
And as much as an ar$e that River could be, I couldn't help but want Carrie and River to get their HEA - it wasn't a light and fluffy journey to get there.
I read this book in one evening, as once I started it I couldn't put it down.
River was a young boy when he was abused by his step father who was a cop, reading what River endured as a young boy broke my heart, he lost so much and it turned him into a bitter, sad man he didn't let anyone in and who could blame him. Annie (Carrie) who found out she was pregnant ran from an abusive husband also a cop she ends up renting the house next to River, I loved Carrie she was strong, resiliant, even though she had been through so much herself she was everything River didn't know he needed. This story is one of trust, friendship, love and HOPE.
This story had everything, pain, heartache, strength, humour and love. I didn’t want it to end. I loved River and Carrie. Two people who had been hurt by people close to them who found friendships and love in each other. The banter between them was 😂 and I loved how pushy Carrie was with him
