Grab a cuppa and dig right in
31 August 2014
After reading "The Nothing Girl" by Jodi Taylor, I was keen start reading more from this fabulous author. I read through a few reviews on the amazon.com starting with the 1 and 2 star ratings (I like to know what people dislike about a book). I was turned off by the mention of loads of sex, offensive language and comparisons to another author's work.
After a couple of days, I figured for $0.99 it was worth taking the risk to find out for myself. I'm SO glad I did! Yes, there was some sex and a few curse words. However, I was about a third of the way through the book and I don't remember reading much of either. I'm not so inured to swearing that I don't notice it (well, I hope I'm not). Fortunately, I haven't read any other time travel book (apart from Outlander) so couldn't compare it to another series.
Jodi Taylor is a very witty writer. Her characters are slightly exaggerated but believable. I was hooked from the beginning of this story. There are a few twists and turns and a couple of "I didn't see THAT coming" moments. The story slowed somewhat towards the end which cost it a star in my view.
When I finished reading this book, I logged on and bought every other Jodi Taylor book or short story available on Amazon. That's how confident I am about enjoying this author's work!! So, if you like to laugh (and occasionally snort) and love a rollicking good tale, then grab a cuppa and dig right in. You'll be so glad you did!
Note: I don't find reviews that tell you all about the plot helpful. I can find that out in the product description and often they give too much away so that I don't feel I need to read the book. So, I write the type of reviews I find most helpful. I hope you do, too.
