Holy molasses. This book is fan-freaking-tastic! From page one I was hooked by the quality and style of the writing, and as the pages progressed I was quickly sucked into the addicting characters and plot.
Vinna is a kickass heroine who can certainly look after herself and everyone else while she’s at it. Vinna actually reminded me of Sawyer Matthews but with a bit more of a softer side and less of the cape crusader thing going on. And while Vinna is special, she doesn’t give off the dreaded ‘special snowflake’ vibe; thank god for that. And the guys? Well, in all honesty when the older guys made an appearance I got a bit worried. Not that there’s anything wrong with an older man but for the dynamics of the story I really don’t think it would of worked. But thankfully the ‘boys’ materialised and everything was good again in the world.
I cannot believe that this is Asher’s first book; I actually went looking for evidence of other books. Asher certainly knows how to write. The characters are full of realistic emotions and personalities. The plot flows easily from scene to scene, and the action and drama of the story is countered by sweet moments and flowing dialogue. In the whole book, I noticed only one mistake - Laughlin pops up instead of Lachlan - that is hardly ever heard of in new authors, especially in this genre.
The Lost And The Chosen is a medium burn reverse harem with plenty of steamy scenes and action that includes lots of bloodshed. There is no cliffhanger. My only negative is that it should never of ended. Bring on January.
What am an amazing first for a series. From the very first page you are drawn into Vinna’s world, who’s been roughing it from the start, not knowing who she is or why she was abandoned. She has the typical tough attitude that comes with her pain from abuse and an unknown power inside her that she doesn’t understand. I’m not giving out any spoilers, but do yourself a favour and read this book, if you like sci-fi you won’t be disappointed.
It was so nice to have a break from all the incredibly badly written reverse harems and to find a heroine who is so badass!! I could feel myself relating to her because of shitty home-life and inspired by her to be strong and powerful and would think of her when I train, making myself into as much of a boss lady as she is. It's so inspiring for a young adult to read. She felt so real and tangible, character building is usually a major flaw in new writers but Asher has done so well with this one. She has personality and spunk without having to be introduced as spunky to re-enforce her unusual character. I cannot wait for the next book. I'm very picky when it comes to writing and though there were a few cliché moments, it didn't take away from the novel and plot. It was well thought out and executed very well. I had a few issues with the character building of the men and found the twins interchangeable and had some issues telling the difference between some but she made up for it so well with how strong of a character the MC was. I cannot wait to see more depth in the older mens' characters in the next book and find out why they were so cold to her.
Look out for this one as a blockbuster movie in the future, it's going to be the next hunger games but so much better. Strong is the new sexy and the MC is definitely strong.
Loved everything about this book, couldn't put it down till it was finished. Not once did I think "get on with it" as I have in some of the books I have read recently. The story flowed seamlessly, the characters are interesting and the story kept me engrossed. Looking forward to many more great books from this author and definitely on my must buy list.
