Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings using a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. The machine learned model takes into account factors including: the age of a review, helpfulness votes by customers and whether the reviews are from verified purchases.
The experiences of Amanda as a prison doctor could have made a truly fantastic book with a better writer. That is to say that despite the limitations-the lack of depth in particular, it would appeal to most people simply for the novelty of her job. It is certainly worth more than the miserable one star that the previous reviewer gave it, but it did not make a great impression on me, sadly. But hey, she is a doctor not a writer, so well done to her for at least telling us about her work.
