This is my first book by this author, and it won't be my last! What an brilliant read! I was spellbound from the start.
The worldbuilding was amazing! The descriptions of the manor and Cornish countryside was beautifully done, but didn't weigh down the story - a balance I find a lot of authors don't get right. I think it helped that Oz had the Art History background - he was appalled at the state the manor was left in by his predecessor, and when they visited another manor in the area he delighted in pointing out the fake items that didn't fit the period. The humour and the way the description wove through the conversation mean it didn't get dry and only served to enrich the story.
The characters were loveable, relatable and a pleasure to read. They were so well developed, which was helped with the alternating POV. I loved that Oz retained his sass and humour throughout, and that he found more friends who accepted him for who he was. Silas was a fun character to read about - how he delighted in Oz and appreciated every aspect of his personality was gorgeous. I loved watching these two find each other!
The storyline was fun and extremely entertaining. This is one of those books that you don't want to put down - not because it has you on the edge of your seat with plot twists and action, but because the flow was just perfect and it swept you along - it was a pleasurable read, and I'm excited to read more in the series.
Definitely a book I would recommend and I can't wait to read more from this author.
Lily Morton where have you been hiding? This books is riotous. I laughed so much I had tears in my eyes. The humour is so good, the sexy bits are uninhibited and fun filled, the story is fabulous, the characters are so colourful and the writing is wonderful. I love this author, and am getting ready to devour her other books. I cant say more than that - just read it! So, so good
Having not read any books by this author before I was a bit hesitant to start with. I can honestly say it was one of the most delightful stories I have read in a long time. The characters were well thought out, the scenery beautifully descriptive and the situations that Oz got himself into delightful. Especially the closet moment. I laughed out loud, unable to control myself for a good ten minutes just trying to read that scene. Well worth reading and I’m looking forward to trying more of her books. Not being an author I’m a pretty harsh critic but I think the 5 stars were well earned.
Loved this book. I really enjoyed the humour in this story. I tend to steer away from stories with lots of angst. Things can be depressing enough without getting it a love story. That is why I liked this one. It wasn’t all smooth sailing but no real black parts to the story.
Adore the characters, the banter, the story and the background. A great story very well told. I promptly went off and bought the authors other books, and I haven’t regretted that at all! Great writer!!!!
I fell in love with Oz from the first page. I do love snark and sarcasm, and Oz has that that in spades, while still remaining caring and sweet. Silas also stole my heart. He is down to earth and true to himself, rather than his position, and all the more special for it. And gorgeously filthy in bed. This book is full of witty banter. It’s a slow burn, laugh out loud, low angst, sweet gorgeous tale of two wonderful men finding their HEA. We are introduced to some intriguing side characters who I look forward to seeing more of, as well as meeting Henry and Ivo (from Risk Taker) again. The depth of feeling between them is palpable, and I didn’t want to let them go.
Another amazing book from Lily Morton. I have read all her books and loved every single one. I think this might be my favourite though. The MCs are so different but fit so well together. Silas is my new book boyfriend because he is just so dreamy. But Oz is witty, funny and loyal and I loved him too. Overall it was funny and at times poetically beautiful, sweet, romantic all with a dash of angst. Oh and it is so unapologetically British, which is one of the reasons I love Lily Morton so. I myself am not British but brit books are my kryptonite. Recommends for all mm romance book enthusiasts.
So much to love in this book, the descriptions of the wild Cornish countryside, the casual mention of Poldark, the hints of Irish, the love story itself is beautiful. Oz is such a sassy, loud-mouthed individual. Absolutely has the best job interview I‘ve ever read! Silas is as wild as his native Cornwall. They make a perfect couple.
