"Acts of Mercy" by Ciara Graves is a fantastic first book in a new paranormal romance series - even better the next two books are already out!
Mercy is a bit of a mystery, and so is the demon hero, Rafael. Add in trouble and consequences, rising stakes, a deadline and a well-developed urban fantasy world, and not only is this an enjoyable book in itself, but it sets things up for a solid series with questions to be answered.
A fresh take on the paranormal romance genre, while respecting its tropes.
It was mostly awesome! Sassy ass heroine who's super rare and cursed, an equally cursed demon, a broody and dickish half demon boss and a sexy royal vamp? What's not to like? Except when Mercy gets side tracked with her attraction to Raf. I'm secretly putting money on Damien becoming a lover hopefully, still wanna know where Wes is and Iris is a bloody annoying female dog. I suspect she's evil under all that clingy annoyingness
The lead character is a strong, sarcastic, messed up bounty hunter, working reluctantly with a handsome messed up demon to capture a mage who has become something else. All elements of a good story, but there's such a dark thread that runs through Ciara Grave's books. Torture, a history of severe pain, goblins ripping someone to pieces. Definitely not for the faint hearted
