I don't read many YA books, but when an author whose previous books I have loved releases one then I'll read it. I had no idea what the storyline was going to be when I preordered it, Be The Girl was a more emotional read than what I was expecting. It covers some serious and very heart breaking issues that are very relevant to youth today.
Sixteen year old Aria Jones and her mother move to make a fresh start. Aria has a new last name, a new school, and she starts to make new friends. She also has new neighbours - socially awkward and very sweet Cassie, and her gorgeous older brother Emmett. I love Cassie - she was my fav character. I was so happy for Cassie that she had such a protective older brother to help shield her from others that didn't have the nicest intentions towards her.
As I've found with this author before, not everything is what it appears - I love when something unexpected happens, that makes me question what I thought I had already figured out. This story finished before I was ready for it to, I wanted so much more Aria, Emmett and definitely more Cassie.
