4.0 out of 5 starsGood for MacBook Pro (with a catch or two)
5 January 2019
Doesn't offer full Thunderbolt 3 speed of course (it's only USB C spec) but very comfortably drives gigabit ethernet, full USB 3 speed to multiple ports and 4K 30hz HDMI while offering power all in one port on the computer. Looks great with space grey finish of Mac.
One thing to watch out for is it runs very hot when it has power plugged into it - I'd keep kids away from it.
The other thing of note, is that when it is not connected to the computer, but the power is plugged in and the LAN cable is plugged in it causes my router to shut off all data serving. When I plug the device into one of the TB3 ports on my 2018 MacBook Pro, it works perfectly delivering data via LAN to the computer and the router is happy. Unplug the device from the laptop and leave the LAN and power cables in it perfectly reproduces every time - causing the router to stop serving all data to all devices on the network. The word is that this is a common problem with all of these types of USB-C hubs with ethernet ports, not necessarily just this brand. The solution being to always make sure you unplug the power cable from the hub before unplugging the hub from the computer, then leave the power unplugged until the hub is re-connected to the computer. Get into the habit of doing disconnecting/reconnecting in that order and it's a great little hub and excellent value for money.
