Friends to lovers - such a beautiful realisation that they were more than friends but could they get through the years of baggage and fear? This was such a wonderful read and I absolutely love this author. Can't wait to get my hands on more of her work.
I love love love this book. I laughed, cried and even fist-pumped the air. I can't even remember the last time I felt this moved by a romance. It's going to be one of those books I read over and over again. The problem is finding another which is just as good!
All My Life by Prescott Lane is a standalone contemporary friends-to-lovers romance. Told in dual POV between Devlyn and Garrett the book opens with the high school valedictorian speech given by Garrett's daughter Mia and takes the reader on a wild trip into the lives of Garrett, Mia, Devlyn and how they came to be where they are at this crossroads in all their lives. Passionate, well-written and well-paced, this story was epic and awesome and I loved every minute of it.
Devlyn has been in love with Garrett since the moment she laid eyes on him and they were best friends ever since. At fifteen, Devlyn experienced a switch in their friendship when an outsider came to their sleepy town for the summer. Garrett fell for Sheena and left Devlyn on the outside, still his best friend but she felt the loss of him when his romantic interest was turned to this newcomer. When Sheena returns months later, pregnant, Devlyn knows that is it for her. Determined now to be the best friend he could ever want - she is there for him the entire pregnancy and all the years he raised his daughter.
Garrett was the one the town thought would get the football scholarship and go away to a great college, but when he becomes the teen parent and pariah of the town only Devlyn is there for him. Thanks to her solid friendship the town softens towards his outcast status and when he is left to parent alone, they all start to help in whatever ways they can. The whole town becomes "adoptive" parents of Mia. When things shift between Devlyn and himself he starts to question everything he thought he knew about the past 18 years. He sees everything in a different, much clearer light. Finally he is ready to give Devlyn everything she deserves and more and then a blast from the past shows back up ad throws everyones lives into turmoil.
How I loved this book, the first I have ever read by this author. I knew from the synopsis that it would be an emotional ride so I was ready for everything the words could throw at me, but still I wasn't prepared for how much I loved it.
So this book start with a high school valedictorian speech given by Mia, daughter of Garrett who then takes us the reader on a journey of discovery present and past of the three people in this book this story revolves around; Garrett, Mia and Devlyn whom Garrett has known since they were children. They went to school together, grew up together in the small town where everyone knows everyone else, they are best friends in a close knit community. Devlyn has loved Garrett for as long as she can remember, she was fifteen when a stranger came to town and stole Garrett's heart away from her. Even with what happens in the next few years to Garrett Devlyn's wavering devotion never changes for him and she is always there for him through thick and thin, Through all of Garrett's troubles that lie ahead she is still the best friend she can be. The trouble is Devlyn aches to have more than friendship with Garrett but she knows he only sees her as his best friend and she doesn't ever want to risk ruining that friendship that means everything to her, always in the background, always the loyal friend.
At times I wanted to slap Garrett around his head and tell him to open his eyes and see what was standing in front of him, he was so frustrating but so lovable too. A fantastic dad to Mia given the circumstances of her birth and when eventually the light bulb in his head turned on my heart literally soared out of my chest. I adored the duel POV between Garrett and Devlyn and how it flicked back and forth from the past to the present and in between all those important eighteen years. I simply languished in all the emotions, the angst, and the lovely little twists we got treated to, simply just an amazing book that I'm so glad I read , a MUST read !!!!
ALL MY LIFE by Prescott Lane is a single father and friends-to-lovers romance. Garett’s got fatherhood down pat for the most part given his daughter, Mia, is a well-adjusted teen about to head off to college. It’s the romance that’s been a long time in coming!
The phrase ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ holds true for Garrett, Mia and the small town they live in. As hard as it would have been, I loved the insight into Mia’s growing up years and the help both she and Garrett received from the town – after the scandal had died down, of course.
Always a help and support to him since Mia came along is his childhood friend Devlyn. Devlyn has been there for all the major milestones, and has been a quasi-mother to Mia from the start. She has also been in love with Garrett all these years but it’s been a case of unrequited love.
I enjoyed Garrett and Devlyn’s relationship. They know a lot about each other, are comfortable with each other and when they make the leap into a romantic relationship, they work incredibly well together as a couple. And yet, I was never fully comfortable with this relationship. Both these characters are so reasonable. It’s not all smooth sailing and the author has given them a foundation of level-headedness that ensures neither character engages in silly behaviour, however, I was never able to get over the fact that firstly, it took nearly 20 years for them to act and secondly, the jump from friends to lovers was a smooth transition. Devlyn, I could understand; she’s been pining for Garrett. Garrett on the other hand is a tougher sell for me. And it’s annoying because he is not at all a sleaze. He is an upstanding person who would never delude or deceive a woman.
The pacing and flow of the book works well. I enjoyed the dual points of view, and I always understood each character’s reasoning for their actions. An overall solid read. This was my first Prescott Lane book but I see she has a back catalogue of titles that I am keen to take a closer look at.
Boys are always an emergency... Emergencies are unexpected and dangerous. I’d say that’s the definition of most boys.
Who decided the heart is the body part to represent love, anyway? Why is that? Because it beats faster when you’re with someone special? Well, my dick thumps, so maybe the penis should be on all the Valentine’s Day cards. We could serve chocolates in a penis shaped container! … Is it because you can’t live without your heart? I guess a man can live without his penis, but why would he want to?
I decide to hide out and bake. Carbs never disappoint, so I’m making a few hundred. Biscuits don’t judge me. Pastries don’t gossip, and never has a scone made me cry, so I figure I’m safe.
I get the feeling she wants to say more, but she doesn’t. A woman who has something to say but won’t is like a snake ready to strike. You know it’s coming, but there’s not a damn thing you can do to prepare.
I loved this book from start to finish. This is the fourth book of the divinely talented Prescott Lane that I have read, and while each has been stellar, it is my completely unqualified opinion that All My Life is her best work yet. Brimming with clever and observant humor, poignant insights, heart-squeezing storytelling, and sizzling love scenes; this flawlessly written and well-crafted story was perfectly balanced and hit all the feels. I was captivated by the tale, totally enamored with the endearing and enticing characters, and well entertained by Ms. Lane’s clever style. It was Nirvana!
This was my first Prescott Lane book, even though she has been on my radar for a little while now. And let me tell you, I will definitely be back for more! I was hooked with this story right from the start, and I devoured it in close to one sitting.
Garrett is an amazing character - both as a father, a friend, and a well liked person in his little hometown. Devlin also is well liked by everyone, and because they have known each other their whole lives, there is a wonderful friendship base and ease of things between them.
This is one of the more extreme, if that's the right word, friends to lovers books that I have read, and the only reason I say that is because of the length of time that Devlin has harboured feelings for Garrett.
I could see the issues that were going to happen, pretty close to the start, and I was filled with a lot of angst throughout this read. I couldn't put the damn book down because I was so determined to find out what would happen.
There were a few characters I wanted to say some choice words to, but in the end, everything played out really nicely, and the story ended perfectly.
I definitely recommend this one, and I look forward to reading more by Prescott in the future.
I volunteered to read an advanced copy of this for an honest review!!! I actually enjoyed a few different things about this book!!! This book explores the life of a single dad who has given his all to raise his daughter! It takes a worthy man with a beautiful mind and soul, to give his heart to raise his daughter (or children in general)! And also, the best friend (Devlyn) who was always around to help them and be there for them!!! This book is where you witness a whole different type of love!!! This girl had so much love in her, enough to give and also to change a whole town and that’s admirable (though I wouldn’t say the same for myself 😂)! Don’t worry... it wasn’t all rainbows and unicorn because I wanted to strangle some people lol but truly, I loved and enjoyed the progress of this book. It explored so much more than just romance... Life issues, relationships and complication of relationships, consequences of choices and actions, results of love and blessings, having a support system and just being kind. #ONECLICK this book!!!
Prescott blows my mind with her words, all my life is sweet, conflicted and touching. Every word, every emotion that Garrett and Devlyn felt, I felt to the tip of my toes. I fell in love with their story. I loved that it was Duel point of view as it allowed to see their relationship develop from either side.
