Wow! What a book!! I can’t even begin to form words of how hilarious this book is. It is fantasy with a bit of everything from fairy tales to witches to fairies and goblins. It is nothing like your innocent childhood fairy tale of Cinderella.. nope! This is full of twists on the traditional characters but mainly focussing on the main character of a twenty year old second year college witch. Full of classic one liners with references to pop culture. Love love love!
If you’re looking a book to make you laugh non-stop then you must read this!
As if I couldn’t adore the writing of Jane Washington any more, she comes out with this - the first of a new series. I promise you’ll love the characters and the dialogue. It’s a genius take on fairytales - originally done and adult with its quirky hilarious humour. I so can’t wait for the rest In this series. Trust me. Go In Blind - don’t read the blurb - just get swept away :)
This book is amazing and hilarious. Such a unique concept full of twists that you don't see coming. Takes a while to get your head around the magic structure but once you do you realise how fantastic it is. I cannot wait for the next book.
This was fun! So much fun. Second year student assigned to make sure one of the most important fairy tales goes off without a hitch. Nothing she does is expected from hiring goblins and working with sex crazed fairies. Cinderella is a theif. All this seems to be a side note to real events, as a strange cult seems to be targeting all the females in her family tree. I read this in one sitting i laughed so much. This has been my favourite book all year. Do yourself a favour and lose yourself in the world of Bastan Hollow
I thought this was going to be just another fairytale retelling, but am pleasantly surprised. The humour was great, the characters were fun, and the story was entertaining. Am looking forward to reading about Slade in book 2. :)
In true Jane Washington style this book will have you hooked and laughing out loud from the very start. Charming is everything ..witty one liners, kick butt MC, well thought out storyline and one of the most unique takes on the fairytale world I've ever read. Unlike twisted tales this world relies on fairytales behaving and following the script to the T..because failure to keep those realms in line could quite literally result in catastrophic consequences for human and non human kind alike.
If you are a fan of Jane Washington then you know she has a way of making her characters slightly off kilter, hilariously funny and for the most part endearing...Charmings characters are exactly that. Strap yourself in and enjoy the fairytale ride, I sure did and can not wait for the second installment.
This book is where the trivial but endearing parts of reality and what it is to be human collide with the drama of an otherworldly story well told. It's strength comes from an effortless melding of incongruous things that end up making a hilarious, heart melting, perfect story all wrapped up in only one book. It never felt rushed and even insignificant characters filled the prose with their strength of personality until it was impossible to stop reading. It was more delightful still for the deft way that Washington manages to knit these opposites together until it's not a strange thing at all to be reading about an insane quest filled with incompetent side characters to matchmake a kleptomaniac and an egomaniac manwhore - and that's just kind of the side story...
The detail would get this 5 stars alone even without the charisma of the incredible characters. The way the magic works is considered and unique - a whole interesting story in itself that never weighs down the antics of the characters and augments everything.
I think the strongest part is that this is the real story of what the best (or funniest) versions of ourselves would encounter if thrown into a magical fairytale. I wouldnt ever be a Harry Potter or a Bella Swan - I don't think I could ever be Katniss, but I could see myself bumbling and joking my way through a whole adventure and hoping to come close to Lil in Charming. This book was everything I didn't know I needed. It's a really feel good read for discerning readers who like a great story done well.
You’ll be so tightly tied up in Jane Washington’s Charming that you won’t want it to end. With unforgettable twists on fairy tales, rune magic, love, laughter and tears she has created another magical story. The characters and world that Jane has built is truely amazing and I highly recommend this series. I can’t wait to read the second book - Disobedience.
