Kristen Banet has done it again, this time with a fantastic new epic fantasy series. I could not put this one down it was just that freaking amazing, it has everything and I mean everything. There were so many emotions I felt when reading this and I had such a book hangover.
Mave is the a slave forced to fight on the sands of the pits, she has been the champion for the last 1000yrs since she was first thrown on the sand and expected to die. With the arrival of Matesh and Rainev Mave now has two others that are also owned by the Empress and she finds herself with a couple of unexpected allies who bring her the hope and companionship she long since given up on of ever having.
The world building and characters Kristen has created are some of the best she has written to date. The story and characters suck you in from page one and will have you hooked and leave you wanting more.
The Redemption Saga has been my fave book series of Kristen's.... up until now!!
This book was absolutely amazing!! The depth to the characters, worldbuilding, language and culture is just incredible.
This book introduces us to a race called the Andinna: a winged, horned, and tailed warrior race that the Elvasi Empire defeated in the Hundred Year War and then enslaved - and are still capturing and enslaving.
Mave is one of the strongest and most resilient female characters I've ever read. Having been a slave for 1000 years, she has experienced unspeakable cruelty in the 900 years she's been fighting as the only female gladiator in the arena. All this time she has been alone, shunned by her people, with no support. Yet she still keeps getting up and fighting to survive. Truly inspiring!
When a group of new slaves are brought to the arena, 2 really stand out from the rest - Matesh and Rainev. These two characters are so very different from each other, both bringing out different emotions from Mave that she's never really felt before, and both so lovable for different reasons. I love them both, but really have a soft spot for Rain.
While we meet various other characters along the way, i'm not going to go into detail about them cause of possible spoilers.
All you need to know is that this book is EPIC, you need to read it, and I cannot wait for the next book for more Mave and her men! <3
The complexity of this world is mind blowing!! In my head I saw ancient Gladiator sands / arena, pits for the fighters and this is the back drop for this epic story. The main character - Mave, WOW. Talk about a strong, resilient and kickass women. How she survived so long.... and what she has been through is gut wrenching. Holey Moley, I'm gob smacked by it's awesomeness. Highly recommend.
Wow, what an epic fantasy!!! I've been a longtime fan of Kristen Banet's, so when I heard she was writing a story about a female gladiator with wings, horns and a tail, I was prepared to one click the hell out if it. I'm so glad that I got to read this book. Mave, the main character, is tough and fierce, resilient and brave. She's got no friends, no family, and her life is one of slavery and degradation. But through it all, she persists. Her life takes on a strange new turn when she meets some new rogue Andinna, two men who are unlike the other members of her species who also serve as gladiators in the pits with her. Friendship and alliances form, and Rain, Mat and Mave are all tested by the evil Empress. This is an epic fantasy of pain and the power of hope, of loss and the power of love, of virtue and the power of acceptance. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Yet another amazing book by Banet! I have not been disappointed by a single one of her books so far. I could not put this down.
We start in the pits, where you meet Mave who is the only female in the pits, who is also the toughets gladiator down there. Due to all she has had to survive, despite wanting a family and people to trust, she closes herself off and trusts no one. Untle Mat and Rain come along and worm their way into her good graces.
Mat and Rain are two guys who work for the ivory shadow mercenaries and are not the 'heroes'. They are captured on a mission gone awry with no hope of rescue and no choice but to gain Maves trust in order to survive.
They all band together, Mave learns to trust and THERE IS SO MUCH EPIC FIGHTING AND BADASSERY OMG!!!!
This is an amazing high fantasy, and dont worry Mave gets a bit of love ;)
She will eventually get more lovers down the track Mat being the most obvious but i have my guesses for the others!
I love all of Kristen Banet’s book but this wow totally blew my mind!! The depth of character development and emotion in this book is amazing! From the very beginning I was totally engrossed in Mave and her survival...what a bloody extemptional character she is: strong, defiant, a powerful fighter and do alone and victimised!! All through the book you are just hoping she gets a better life and finds companionship and love..then we meet Mat and Rain and they bring her alive!! This book is spellbinding, exciting and heartbreaking....it is s great length and at times I wished I could read faster!! A truly great start to an epic new adventure by s extremely talented author and I am excited to see what will happen next with Mave and her new companions..especially Mat!! Highly recommended!!
Well, Kristen has done it again. Yet another book that sucked me in and then spat me out at the end aching for more! The world building was fantastic and the MC, Mave, is tough yet a bit insecure. This endeared me to her and really brought all the feels (tears).
The male characters are great, too, and I can’t wait to get to know them all more as the series progresses.
The story took me a little while to get into it - but once it had me I was hooked. There’s a good balance between character development and action, and the originality of the Andinna and mutts was refreshing.
Epic fantasy is not something I’m usually a fan of, but this is one series I will devour.
I've read Kristen Banet's paranormal reverse harem romances and found her handling of sensitive issues excellent, and that carries over to this book which has violence, including sexual violence, and slavery. Giving Mave a chance to trust and grow - and how she responds to this chance - has hooked me. So glad this is promised as a seven book series. So many possibilities for the characters and world Kristen Banet has imagined.
Wow, this book really shows how good Kristen is at developing worlds and deep plot lines that keep you engaged and invested in her characters. This book has a slightly similar vibe to rise of the illri, which I know has a huge fan base. However this book is also unique and exciting. Loved the characters and their depth all the hints at sub plotlines are intriguing for the future books.
That was awesome!! I love Mave and her mayara I can't wait to see if she adds more of the company members to her new family and they help trevan to escape he clearly loves her too 😭 kill the empress and take back the skies and there home.
