I’ve been anticipating the hell out of this book ALL YEAR and it absolutely delivered!
We have a kickass flawed WOC protagonist who is strong-willed and wields some fancy blades, but she’s no mythical Chosen One and not everything comes easy to her. She’s the realest protagonist I’ve read in a long time: her dialogue feels authentic, she doesn’t transform into a fierce warrior overnight, and she has to answer to her mother – often to her detriment! The Wonderland scenes were so atmospheric and I wanted to dive into them, while the real world scenes offered up important discourse on race.
YA needs more diverse, realistic, and funny protagonists like Alice. This was just an absolute gem to devour.
