Amazing start to the series
31 August 2018
Firstly, I loved that this was set in the same world as the Fallen Crest series. A few favourites from that series are included in this one - namely Heather and Channing - so having that overlap and seeing where they're at was a lovely bonus (if you haven't read that series, it's not required, but do yourself a favour and do it, as it's now a complete series and is amazing).
As with any book from this author, I was drawn in from the start. It definitely has a darker side than Fallen Crest, but there was that camaraderie and 'brotherhood' between the Wolf crew that we saw with the Cade brothers previously - an "us against the world" mentality, even against the adults who judged them, unfairly at times. The characters are well developed, and I couldn't help but love them all (maybe Cross a little more than the others though!).
The storyline did get quite dark - especially when Bren revealed the secrets of her past (although how her ex accidentally found out about that secret was never explained), but I loved that the rest of her crew - Cross, Jordan, and Zellman - were there for her and didn't judge. There are themes that may be disturbing for some readers - trigger warnings should be heeded - and it's not a book for young teens either.
In short, another amazing book by this author and I can't wait for more in this world.
