I loved the first part of this one...

This is a tough review to write. I loved the first part of the book, essentially nine short stories introducing us to the characters who then come together with a tenth character (the trees) in the rest of the book. At this point, I felt the book got away from Richard Powers a little, and while there were flashes of what he was capable of, there were also long stretches of relatively unremarkable story-telling. That said, there is a lot to like to here and I may re-visit this one if it makes the Man Booker shortlist.
