How else do you describe a book that is not usually in my genre but blew me away?! I usually don’t do books with much humor in them but if this is what I’ve been missing out on, things are going to change! Brek was the manager of a hard driving rock band who drove a bike and lived his life on the road without much family contact. Velma/Velvet was a very straight laced, successful business woman who had a crush on her twin Claire’s soon to be husband, Dean since she was a young girl…without any one’s knowledge of this. Velma had a five year plan of where her life would be and used a spreadsheet to rate the guys she has dated with Dean having the honors as her “10”.
Imagine the surprise when said manager/biker, who was a friend of Dean’s and his best man in waiting, ended up living in Velma’s extra bedroom until Claire and Dean’s wedding. Brek had to stick around because his very pregnant sister, Aspen was ordered to hospital bedrest until the birth of her baby. Aspen was a wedding planner with a growing business that would not withstand her down time so she asked Brek to take over for her. I mean he should be able to handle it since he managed a rowdy rock band, right?!
This is a book that had a lot of laugh out loud moments that at times made me doing a quick look around just to make sure no one was seeing me lose it. Oh, and the steamy scenes these two had was hot. See how the famous Brek was totally attracted to the straight laced Velma who was helping him navigate the rough waters of bridezellas. This book had me turning pages as fast as I could until the very end. Loved it!!
GOING DOWN ON ONE KNEE is my first Christina Hovland book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Velma Johnson and Brek Montgomery are such opposites but they click in a manner that provides us readers with a delightful, humorous and heart warming story.
Velma’s ordered life is running off the rails and she’s in no position to turn things around. What she can attempt to control is what happens in the future, so armed with lists and spreadsheets, she decides to tackle to world of dating in an disciplined fashion.
Brek is a great hero. He is kind, supportive, fun. He’s an all round good guy even though it may not look like it on the surface. He loves his family, and his mother Pam provides some great comic relief.
Brek and Velma’s relationship has its ups and downs but it’s not overly angst-ridden. I loved their interactions. There are plenty of sweet and sexy moments in this charming romantic comedy.
I’ll definitely be reading more books by this author.
Bad Boy meets Good Girl, this book was a seriously funny opposites attract story. My laughing, while read, received more than a few eye rolls from family members.
Velma has a plan, career, financial stability, a husband and a family. She has a spreadsheet to help her find her ideal man. That is until Brek walks I to her life. With his sister on bed rest he's taking over her wedding planning business and is here to stay for a little longer.
He's everything she doesn't want. He rides a motorcycle, manages a rock band, tattoos, long hair, the list goes on. But then she discovers he is everything she didn't know she needed.
