This series is proving to be consistently fun, steamy, and exciting.
Here, we follow the budding relationship between Four Kings Security member Russell ‘Red’ McKinley and fashion photographer Lazarus ‘Laz’ Galanos.
Red and Laz initially met in book one (Love in Spades), forming a special bond when Red provided comfort and support to Laz after Laz was hurt by his now ex-bf at Colton’s pool party. The sparks between these two ignited at first sight and they quickly connected in a haze of hurt-comfort goodness. Unfortunately (or fortunately), Red’s injuries at the end of the first story resulted in a romance roadblock that kept these two from exploring their sudden and intense feelings too quickly.
Where this sequel picks up, a few months have passed while Red has been recuperating. Now with Red all mended and Laz finally over his ex and their abysmal relationship, Red and Laz are reunited for the readers delight, quickly beginning a tentative new relationship at the same time as they find themselves thrown head first into a new life threatening situation – one in which Laz’s life is quite literally in the cross hairs.
In between dodging bullets and trying to uncover who is out to get Laz, Red and Laz together are all things sweetness and sunshine. Both characters are such good men, each owning huge hearts they are eager to give to one another to care for and cherish, permanently. They truly only have eyes for one another from the moment they meet and it honestly doesn’t take long for them to fall into blissful coupledom.
The potential downfall of this is that their relationship comes across as a little too easy at times, with limited angst and drama befalling them as a couple. Although each man has his own demons to face from the past, this story doesn’t really dig too deep into that stuff, instead staying on the lighter, and more sexy, happy and hopeful, side of things. In fact, aside from one frustrating miscommunication moment towards the end, their coming together was very simple and easy, mostly consisting of longing looks and tentative touches that quickly advanced into an insatiable passion that resulted in a truly solid HFN.
Although this series falls under the umbrella of romantic suspense and features characters dealing with a myriad of serious personal issues, such as PTSD and (past) rape, I still found this story super light in the angst department. To me, the characters are a little bit too exaggerated and the situations a little bit too extreme. I figure this is the intentional tone set by Cochet in this particular series, and as such I’m enjoying it for what it is – a stimulating, sassy, and damn sexy romantic suspense series.
What's more to say about a Charlie Cochet book other than it's amazing. Seriously this book and this series is definitely worth a read, Charlie will have you laughing your ass off in one chapter and hit you with all the feels in the next. Laz and Red have an instant attraction to one another and has to overcome their own problems to truly be together. I don't know how Charlie does it but I'm so excited for the next book.
Found this one just as good as the first book in the series. Eventhough there are very serious part to the story it’s also great to have a few good laughs.
Be Still My Heart, book 2 in the Four Kings Security Series by Charlie Crochet continues to strengthen the series. This book is all about Red and Laz, and while we get lots of appearances from our Four Kings men, as well as friends of Laz, and the baddies, this installment seems sweeter than book 1, though there is an element of danger present.
For lovers of Charlie Crochet's writing, and after reading all the THIRDS series, I think I can safely say the Four Kings Security is going to be as good as THIRDS, though if I had any complaints at all, I'd say I thought this second book was a little too sweet with way too much sexy -times ( and I cant believe I'm even saying that!!). Personally, despite all the smoking hot heat between Red and Laz, I thought the plot needed a bit more punch to give it that edge, because there was someone out to get Laz, and there didn't appear to be enough urgency behinds that theme, which steered the book into a lighter sweeter, fluffier side than it could have been. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the novel.
If you enjoyed book one like I did, chances are you'll enjoy book 2. Despite the lighter theme, I still highly recommend the series.
I am loving this series so much! We met both Red and Laz in book one - Red is one of the Four Kings and was a medic in the Special Forces. Laz is one of Colton’s best friends and in book 1 we saw Laz with a very controlling boyfriend who pushed him in such a way that he hit his head and fell into the swimming pool unconscious. If it wasn’t for Red saving him he would have drowned. The connection between the guys was instant and I’ve been itching to read their story ever since and this book didn’t disappoint!
In this book Laz becomes the target of a shooter and is instantly put under Four Kings protection while they find out who the shooter is and why they’re targeting Laz. I love how much this series brings all the Four Kings main players into every book so you learn more about their stories and become more invested in their characters too and not just the two MC’s. All the guys are amazing and loveable in their own ways. Red and Laz’s connection felt so natural and right and you could feel the love they have for each other jumping off the page. I love this author, the humour in her books and I adore this series, roll on book 3!!
I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review
This is the second book in the Four Kings Security series. Although it can be read as a standalone, I would definitely suggest that you read book one (Love in Spades) as we met both MCs in book one. I love Charlie Cochet's writing. She is such an amazing storyteller. I love Red's character. His strength and protectiveness has made him one of my fav in this series so far. I enjoyed watching Red and Laz's relationship develop. As with book 1, there is a mystery to solve and Charlie had me guessing until the end. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series, which from all hints, is going to be one hot number!!!
I absolutely LOVED this book! I haven’t read a book from Charlie Cochet that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed..but this series is just amazing! Lax and Red are absolutely perfect for each other. They are two men who have their baggage and their own fears, and a crazed killer on the loose..but with love and the help of those insane guys, they’ve got this 😉
4 and a half stars ....Red and Laz are the 2nd couple in the Four Kings series that we get to meet and there tension has been since they appaeared in book 1 . This was well written and nicely flowing and so who did it makes a cool twist
Another great book from Charlie Cochet in the Four Kings Security series. Book 2 is all about Red and Laz. They are both such sweethearts. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for Lucky’s story.
