A little disappointed that this vacuum was ordered through the Australian site and it arrived with a USA style power plug! Therefore lost a star rating. I was aware per listing that it was an “International product” but no other mention of power rating. I’ve had to go out & buy a travel power adapter so that I can charge the batteries. Ok so with the trial run on minimal battery strength, I’m very pleased with the performance of the vacuum. Shark have done very well again. We already have a true pet upright vacuum which has been awesome! We have a mixture of floor types - vinyl planks, carpet & tile. Easy to switch between surfaces. Very impressed with how quiet the vacuum is! Just wanted a quick runabout to clean up after the pets & general mess. One minor negative is no HEPA filter, but will get the big vacuum out for that. So far so good! 4/4 stars for Shark on another great product.
This has been the best wreless handheld vacuum cleaner I ever used, I need to get another one after nearly a year's usage. Very reliable with great suction. It pretty much beats all the other vacuum cleaners I had used including the expensive Dyson model, which I threw it away after plastic body cover cracked only within 3 years of usage.
This product continues to perform well and I am looking to buy another one. However it is a shame that its price had gone back to normal height on Amazon.com.au, where I am waiting for its dropping again... So please Amazon, please drop the price again and let me know :-)
Firstly, full disclosure, I purchased [and still use] a corded Shark vacuum that still does a great job. I just have a hate for cords, so I decided to get a cordless. I did a LOT of research and comparisons between this [Shark IF281] and the Dyson v10 Absolute. I ultimately chose the Shark IF281 for the following reasons: 1. History. My current [corded] Shark vacuum still works very well after 2.5 years. 2. It has 2 batteries. The Dyson has 1, and it has no pre-engineering to allow for an additional battery swap in the future. I consider that a very limiting engineering feature, especially since it's battery life reviews were so devastating for the Dyson.
So I received my Shark IF281 and I LOVE IT for the following reasons: 1. It has no cord! 2. It's actually pretty light. I read a couple reviews where they said it was heavy and you needed two hands. That is not my experience. I'm a disabled vet who just had my dominant hand wrist replaced 6 weeks ago, and I have no problems with the weight of this vacuum. 3. The vacuum head is not terribly wide. Some said this is a detriment, but I find that it's perfect for getting into places where my upright Shark vacuum cannot. 4. I was able to clean areas I have never been able to clean without moving heavy furniture. I LOVE the flex feature. It makes getting under sofas and beds so easy. The Dyson doesn't have this feature. Huge oversight. The flex feature allows me to get to places without having to get down on my hands and knees. LOVE LOVE LOVE. 5. The battery life is not an issue. My home is 2700 sq ft. I have hardwood floors in main areas, but carpet in bedrooms. The fact that it's NOT corded makes vacuuming so much faster that it simply just doesn't take as long to vacuum. So the battery life, especially with 2 of them to swap, is perfect for my sized home. 6. One review said this would make a great secondary vacuum. I disagree. This will do it all, and you may never use your corded vac again. 7. It's so versatile. Popping off the vacuum head and using an accessory is a snap. 8. This will replace my anemic hand-vac that barely pics up anything. 9. Cleanup is so easy. 10. And last, but not least, I HATE to vacuum, but this thing actually makes it a little fun.
I couldn't be happier about this purchase, and I think you'll like it as well.

This is the first powerless vacuum that I've run across that can stand up to my houseful of males and pets. Overall, I'm happy with this vacuum but would not recommend it for everyone. + powerful cordless! It seriously picks up random stuff that ends up on your wooden floors; + slim vacuum head goes under all furniture and you know that strip of dust that accumulates under the furniture by the baseboards where no other vacuum can reach? Well, some genius at Shark took advantage of the bend feature to allow you an angle to reach. I may or may not be obsessed with this feature. + provides two chargeable ion batteries so you'll never be without power (use one/charge one); + carpet / floor mode is a tap away; + easy to use without reading instruction manual; - boost option is needed to clean carpet and that sucks battery life / not recommended for wall-to-wall carpet homes ; - small vacuumed container; and - top heavy, it cannot stand upright without falling over so need to fold up whenever not holding.
My first car that I drove cost $500..... why this thing cost $500 blows my mind. Shark and Dyson try to compete to make you think they are the best... but I feel buying a vacuum for less would just be better cause it does the same job. It has the ion boost which you think is special but it’s the same as a lower model vacuum. I have owned a fair bit of hand me down vacuums up to this point and I felt more satisfied with them
It is a great product but maybe a bit expensive? But then again, I think it is worth it! So far I have enjoyed the ease of it all. It is a bit heavy but we all need more workouts so I am fine with that. For once in my life I am actually enjoying vacuuming. No more cords to trip over or canisters to slam against walls. The Shark cordless vacuum, with dual batteries is a life saver!
Be Careful if you want the two battery charging station... This is our second Shark. We still own and love our first one (single battery). We bought this one for the two batteries and what I THOUGHT was a two battery charging station. I’m disappointed to report we received a single battery charging station. My bad for not paying close attention to the picture in the description. We were really looking forward to keeping two batteries docked, fully charged, and ready to go.
Quite pleased with this cordless vacuum! The suction isn’t the best but the dual pickup system more than compensates so very little gets left behind. The turbo suction works well. Love the cordless freedom! One battery lasts long enough to do a thorough clean in 350 sq. ft and that is using turbo as well, with charge remaining. Arrived on time, well packaged, as described. We are very happy with this vacuum!
4.0 out of 5 starsNice weight, battery power needs improving

The Shark ION F80 is a very light vacuum. That being said all the weight is in the handle which is where the motor and battery are housed. I have a corded stick vacuum the Shark Rocket HV380 which is a lot heavier and larger. I found the HV380 to be unbalanced and cumbersome. This new Shark ION F80 is a major improvement in that area. I also found the multiflex storage option of the F80 to be a great feature. It allows the handvac to be stored upright. On the HV380 you had to detach the handle otherwise it would tip over. The multiflex wand is also good for cleaning under furniture. The only real draw back of the F80 is the run time of the batteries. If you want the full power that the corded HV380 provides you have to in-gauge ion boost mode which only give you 10 minutes of cleaning power per battery. I am glad shark included two batteries. The 80 minute run time they advertise is for the handvac only not on carpet. You can get a half hour of use in carpet mode on each battery in regular power mode. If you want to "deep clean" your carpets than you have to use ion boost. This vacuum is good for small jobs or if you have a lot a bare floors in your house. The bare floor run time is a lot longer. I found the F80 to be particularly useful to clean carpeted stairways because of its light weight and compact size.
We were hopeful we'd made the right cordless vacuum choice for our multi-pet, mostly hardwood living space. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The ION F80 has some nice features but the suction power was underwhelming, even in "boost" mode, and there was noticeable hair wrap around the roller after our short test.
We returned the item and followed the herd to the Dyson store with no regrets.
