To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I jumped in and purchased 7 pair of these socks for a two week hiking trip. I was so disappointed at how much they shrank, I would have sent them back if time was not an issue. The tops are not as high as the picture shows and they slide down in hiking boots, they were not as soft as I had expected either. I have been use to alpaca socks.
I have no issue with Darn Tough socks, which by all accounts is a great product. My problem is with the product title and details. Included is a screen shot of the title, and it's clearly socks for 'Men'. What I received was Women's large, and since the Product Description ranks sales at various women's outlets, the title is, apparently, wrong. Also, and as previous reviewers have noted, the percentage of merino wool listed on the page is not what is listed on the label (67% vs. 59%). The review pointing this out was in 2017, so it's been wrong for at least three years now.
Fortunately, my wife can use the socks (I hate returning things, so it works out for her). I don't often have a problem with Amazon purchases, but long-standing issues like this that go uncorrected indefinitely don't boost confidence that anybody is minding the store.
I have worn these socks for years with excellent results. Wore first pr yesterday for a 12 mile hike. After washing and drying one time the top on one of them is stretched out and showing wear in the heel area. Very disappointed!
