A couple of friends have Sonos systems in their home theatres. I have always considered myself a purist and stuck with traditional brands. As I have built my smart home lighting, security televisions and voice platforms it made sense to look for products which integrate well and also present great quality offers. I'm really happy with what came from Sonos in a compact system, voice platform compatible and now linked across my home. I have also signed up to beta test Google assistant as I have a number of their product scattered around as well for voice command/ control.
I'll be expanding the system for sure and look forward to the addition of new products in the range.
I had a nice 5.1 surround system with a quality media amp, good speakers, etc.. However, we just couldn't get the voices in movie to come through cleanly, always drowned out by other sounds. Tried several equalisation settings, etc. on the amp, but in the end, we usually just watched movies using the TV's speakers. I put a Sonos Beam in and love the fact that the sound is rich, but voices come through cleanly. We haven't even needed the equalisation setting to bring voices (mid ranges) out even more. I also like the simplicity of not having a separate sub-woofer. Our room is 7x7m and the bass is fine. Not shaking the walls, but plenty good for what we need. Really happy with this system.
A family friend has the playbar with sonos sub and that really impressed - but when the beam came out at more than half the price of that setup i thought i'd give it a chance and i wasn't disappointed. what an incredible sound this little compact soundbar makes! only negative is it sits pretty tall so it blocks my IR receiver on my sony tv, i'll have to raise the tv a little to get around that. the playbar has an IR repeater but the beam doens't. i can control the volume of my tv via the IR receiver on the sonos but that's not very useful.
