The amazing story which commences because 21st century technology, namely a message on Facebook that was sent with more a wish of good luck than really finding the potential correct recipient. By a sheer twist of fate the Facebook message finds the author in Australia from France and a very moving story of 3 generations of her family is found amongst long forgotten memorabilia held in libraries in Australia and a very accommodating and genuine family in France exposes more untold stories about the authors family. A very well researched and constructed story with plenty of real life intrigue to keep you turning the pages, thank you for a really good read.
Incredibly moving and exciting true story. I felt as if I was with Louisa as she embarked on her journey to discover her father ( and herself)through her research and her travels to France. She writes with such honesty and vulnerability and brings the characters and places to life so beautifully.
Louisa seamlessly moves between her father's story and a description of how she researched it. It was extraordinary to see how she started off knowing almost nothing of his life and then partly through good luck and partly through painstaking research, she brings a fascinating man to life on the pages.
