Wow! What a tale Mila Young and Skyler Andra have managed to weave. Darkfire takes us on the journey of Luna beginning to understand the magical world she has always been a part of. But not everything is easygoing and Luna has a choice to make - will she choose the right path or the wrong one? With opposing groups vying for her power, will Luna's Guardians guide her on the right path to the Guild or will they push her away into the arms of the Brotherhood? Only time will tell!
There were two major elements that really helped this story keep my interest - realistic reactions and multiple POVs. Some of the ways that Luna reacts really capture real life and make the story, even in it's paranormal scene, relatable. We get to see confusion, understanding, knowing that things are happening (but also know when not to push for answers), guilt over loving more than one guy, and that regardless of what's happening Luna never loses her sass in the face of adversity.
As for multiple POV, these ladies have managed to keep the story mostly in Luna's perspective. However we have also had a couple of chances to look into the minds of her Guardians - Cole, Blaze and Talon. Without this we would miss the background of Cole's involvement, we wouldn't see that Blaze blames himself for Cole's current life, and we wouldn't understand why Talon is so closed off from Luna.
I cannot wait to see what happens next in the Guild of Shadows series. Here's hoping we get to see the light conquer the dark, and the Guild overcome the Brotherhood.
This is an exciting and different new series by the talented Mila Young. This story line is very different to Mila’s other books and her main characters are all very unique. I loved that it is not the love at first sight type of story and that Luna has to work for the trust of the guys. Luna annoyed the hell out of me at times, but I did like that she is a real person and not a high fighting super star immediately!! I think this book picks up momentum as it goes on and gets better and better..i cannot wait to see what happens next and see if Talon starts to soften up a little. Highly recommended new series.
Well I read the blurb and thought wow this sounds awesome. I liked how it started of, but sadly I found the MC annoying and irritating. I struggled to finish this book. The concept is great it’s just how Luna is portrayed. Indecisive is fine but when u lack conviction it just down plays the whole scene. The men portrayed in this story sound awesome, pity Luna ruins it for me.
